INTERESTING OFFER:
Looks like a lot of fun, it's great you all are doing this.
Here's an offer: if I'm assured all tickets are singled to Flightline, then I'll match your final number up to $3k.
So if you can raise an additional $600, then I'll Venmo $3k tomorrow and we'll have $6k to invest. If you end up at $2,400 or any number up to $3k, then I'll match that number.
I don't want any say in the construction of the ticket(s) - other than they are all singled to Flightline. If the group doesn't want to go that route, that's fine, but I feel strongly that you either play with or against him, you can't straddle this wager and I'd rather play with him.
Last question: I haven't reviewed all of the prior posts, however, assuming there are winning ticket(s), how will the taxes be handled?
Thanks,
Dan

Based on $2400, $3000 or $5-$6k outlay with a FLIGHTLINE single, I can’t see the winning ticket requiring a tax liability. Am I wrong?
Interesting offer………

This is AMAAAAAAAZING! The Banker would handle any taxes which might be owed on our winning ticket. If we owe... we'll take that out for Uncle Sam first, then we'll chop up the winnings. It will all work out wonderfully for our UpInClass BC PK6 Project Players... YES! YES! YES!

I've done a lot of these group tickets before and the tax issues can get complicated.
Here's why:
Let's assume we wager $5k and the wager(s) return $25k, which is a $20k profit.
I'm not worried about a holdback, what I'm worried about is whoever runs the ticket through their account is going to have to report a $20k profit. Now, if that person can match that $20k with losses, then there are no taxes owed (assuming the player is like most of us and does NOT report a profit on horseracing on their return).
So if that $20k pushes that person into profitability for the year, then they will be taxed at their normal tax rate and that's where it can get complicated.
The best way to avoid any issues is to just make sure up front if there will be taxes withheld from a winning wager, regardless of how much is won.
It shouldn't be a hindrance to getting this done, it's just best that we know in advance how it will be handled.

"best that we know in advance how it will be handled."
We are in agreement. This Banker has our every confidence. Thank you again, Mr. Hendry! We'll take care of business first, then we'll enjoy the ROI fruits of our UpInClass BC PK6 Project!

It's funny... I've spent my entire handicapping career trying to beat the favorite. Not this time.

but it's always best to have a back-up plan. i remember waking up early one derby morning to find out my single, i want revenge, had scratched. i said f-it and did an exacta key box POTN/all. that worked out but just trying to be practical here.

Let's come down to reality now: We have pretty close to enough $$ to buy the races in what now comes down to a p5(hopefully), with a probable fave/co-fave winning the Distaff(the two Pletchers and possibly Clariere at her best). A sprint, the Turf with strong Appleby runners(a key upset race possibility?), and what else? Mile turf could come back somewhat predictable......This is becoming more mathematical mixed with some handicapping and hope.
Exactly who is making decisions and constructing this single ticket approach?
The double up on $$ is a great offer if we use it correctly. Do we honestly need it?

More $$ the better. Single ticket?
“Anybody who has ever played the pick six knows how difficult it is to survive six races without encountering at least one implausible, unforeseeable result. So, Crist said, ‘I try to give myself the chance to be wrong on one race if I can be right in enough other spots. If I am right four times, I want to give myself a good chance to win those other two races. And if I’m dead right on three races, I’ll use six or seven horses in a couple of the others and hope for something silly to happen.’” - Beyer On Speed, where Beyer is quoting Steve Crist.

Any pick six is hard as hell to hit, but the BC pick six is damn near impossible - even with a single that comes home. If we end up putting in a $5k ticket, singling Flightline, we'll still likely have less than a 5% chance of hitting it.
But the difficulty also works to our advantage in that small tickets have just about zero chance of winning, yet there will be thousands bought since it's the BC. So we're in a position where even if Nest and Flightline win, we'll still get paid, even if the other 4 races are scattered w/ some favorites.
Let's do this: someone put in an extra $100 and then I'll match the $2,500, which I'll Venmo today and then let's cap it at $5k. That's a nice round number and will give us some decent coverage.

We are keeping the pool open for contributions until 5pm tomorrow . I am sure we will reach $3000. To get the ball rolling I will put in another $100.. We would welcome your input for selections and ticket construction though but we can discuss that after the final entries and draw this afternoon
Let’s do this !
