I am very pleased to confirm that we will be able to welcome back some Royal Enclosure Members to Royal Ascot this year. After such a difficult and challenging period this will be a welcome opportunity to enjoy top class racing in person again.
A year ago, Royal Ascot took place ‘behind closed doors’ for the first time in its long history. Racing restarted just two weeks beforehand. Thanks to the tireless efforts of all parts of the racing industry it has been uninterrupted ever since.
Some creative rescheduling of the race programme, and the skill and enthusiasm of broadcasters, brought Royal Ascot to millions of people and homes around the world in 2020. This enabled so many to enjoy seeing Stradivarius winning his third Gold Cup and Battaash triumph in the King’s Stand Stakes after finishing second in the previous two years.
Despite travel restrictions, the victory of the US filly Campanelle in the Queen Mary Stakes maintained the international flavour of the meeting while Tactical’s victory in the Windsor Castle Stakes provided Her Majesty The Queen with a much deserved homebred winner.
I would like to again thank all those Members who completed the recent online Royal Enclosure survey. Your helpful responses have enabled us to configure this year’s Royal Enclosure temporary layout.
As announced in January, Royal Ascot will now stage seven races each day as a permanent change to the programme. The first race will still be at 2.30pm and the new races will be run at the end of the card, with the exception of Saturday, where the Queen Alexandra Stakes will again close the meeting, as is tradition.
Last year, the Copper Horse Stakes, the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes and the Golden Gates Stakes were added to the programme whilst the Buckingham Palace Stakes was reinstated. These have all been retained and we have added the new Kensington Palace Stakes, a handicap to be run over the Old Mile for four-year-old and upwards fillies and mares. Kensington Palace, set in Kensington Gardens, has been a residence for Members of the Royal Family since the 17th century.
In accordance with Step 3 of the Government’s Roadmap, the total maximum capacity for racegoers on all racecourses at this time remains at 4000 per day. There remains the possibility of a larger crowd but, with just a month to go until Royal Ascot, we now need to begin the process to allocate our current permitted capacity.
Members who rolled over their bookings from last year and still wish to attend will now be entered into a ballot process, but I am afraid that, unless other Members are able attend in another capacity (e.g. owners, trainers, boxholders, Royal Ascot Racing Club, fine dining), it is unlikely that they will be able to participate at this stage. It is most regrettable that so many Members will be disappointed and I thank you in advance for your understanding, given that the restrictions are beyond Ascot’s control.
The Royal Enclosure Office will be contacting Members who have rolled over from 2020, to explain the ballot procedure and the other practical aspects of attendance. Those balloted out will of course be offered a refund in full or a rollover to 2022 at 2020 prices.
We will ensure that those who have rolled over three day and weekly badges will be able to attend on at least one day this year.
If our permitted capacity does increase before Royal Ascot we will be able to accommodate more Members, starting of course with those balloted out.
Members attending will park in Car Park 1 and picnics will be permitted, as previously advised.
The facilities in the Royal Enclosure Gardens will be scaled down to meet reduced capacity requirements but there will be extensive track side viewing with table service and some limited bookable dining facilities.
I am sure that you will all understand how crucial it is that this year’s Royal Meeting is a safe event and is seen to be so, as the eyes of the world will be on it. Success in this respect will help to build government and public confidence as restrictions are gradually lifted. I thank you sincerely in advance for respecting and adhering to whatever restrictions are still in place in June, such as social distancing or the wearing of face coverings. These will be communicated to you in more detail nearer the time.
Royal Ascot 2021 will unavoidably look and feel different but I would like to assure you that everyone at Ascot is dedicated and committed to ensuring that those who are able to attend have a most enjoyable and safe day.
Despite these challenges, I am certain that the racing this year will be as brilliant as ever and we can then look forward to Royal Ascot in 2022, the Platinum Jubilee year, which promises to be a unique celebration for us all.
Sir Francis Brooke Bt.

Following Her Majesty’s Representative’s announcement earlier today, we are now able to confirm arrangements for this year’s Royal Meeting.
With capacity now set at 4000 we can confirm that we are unable to release any Royal Enclosure badges for general sale. We are disappointed not to be able to welcome you back as we usually would.
There are a few remaining Fine Dining packages available across the racecourse if you are interested, please click here for further details.
As always, we thank you for your support whilst we navigate these challenging times and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We ask if you could refrain from contacting the Royal Enclosure Office via phone at this time as the team are still working remotely.
If you are unable to attend this year, we will be in touch with details of the Royal Meeting in 2022 in due course and look forward to making your return to racing even more memorable than before.
With best wishes
The Royal Enclosure Office

This was in TDN tonight. 12,000 fans now.
Ascot Racecourse has received a boost with the news that it has been selected by the British government to be part of the Events Research Programme (ERP) as restrictions continue to ease with regard to sporting events. The announcement means that the racecourse will now be able to host 12,000 people daily during Royal Ascot, which begins its five-day run on Tuesday, June 15.

thanx 4 the update, hooper that layout will be a treat with the small #, though the "scenery" won't be as amazing the facility is too nice and modern to sit dormant for 2 years surprised that the parking lot picnicking will be allowed, so UK must be seriously opening up......
maybe an UIC road trip next year?
----------------------------------------------------- We are delighted to inform you that Royal Ascot this year has been selected by Government to be a pilot event in Phase II of the Events Research Programme, a programme working to bring larger scale crowds safely back to sporting events throughout the summer and beyond.
With Royal Ascot now being a designated Events Research Programme pilot the nature of the event has changed and we are able to accommodate a greater number of racegoers. These pilots will provide additional evidence for government, event organisers and consumers on the logistical and practical considerations for reopening events safely during the year.
The Secretary of State has the power to designate such an event as being permitted for research purposes and therefore not subject to the legal restrictions which would apply to other events under Step 3 of the Government’s Roadmap. Although steps are being taken to reduce the additional risk of COVID-19 infection this might introduce, you should make sure you are comfortable with the risks set out within the Privacy Notice.
With the increased numbers permitted on site we are now able to offer Royal Enclosure Members the opportunity to purchase badges for 2021 (June 15th – 19th). If you would like to do so there are, however, three specific requirements for all attendees:
1. Provide consent to be a part of the Events Research Programme. Full details on this can be found here. Badges and digital tickets to Royal Ascot will be distributed after consent has been provided by each attendee on an individual basis. Details on how you will provide your formal consent will be communicated to you in due course by Ascot.
Please note that the Event Research Programme’s Science Board has decided that an individual must be aged 16 or over to attend this event.
2. Provide evidence of a negative lateral flow test taken no more than 36 hours ahead of attendance at Royal Ascot. Details of how to take this test will be communicated to all valid badge and ticket holders in due course.
3. Take 2 PCR covid tests, one either the day before or the day of attendance at Royal Ascot, and one 5 days after attendance. Again, details of how to take these tests will be communicated to all valid badge and ticket holders in due course.
Badges will go on sale at 10.00 on Friday 28th May, and will be available either until they are sold out or through to 17.00 on Wednesday 2nd June. Please click here to purchase your badges.
Should you be successful you may wish to book a restaurant. The following will be available:
The Norfolk Restaurant or Rick Stein (via email restaurants@ascot.co.uk)
The Royal Enclosure Gallery (on Level 4 of the Grandstand) (online)
Should you wish to book Fine Dining please click here.
We anticipate that the volume of enquiries we may receive will result in delays to our operating system, thank you in advance for your patience and understanding about the practicalities and the very tight timescales under which we are operating in these unique circumstances.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to Royal Ascot this year.
Yours sincerely,
Guy Henderson

Nakatomi looked really good in his workout, but the one I'm most interested in is the only one to "not" have won first time out. The hidden gem.

I agree—opening day is my favorite also The first race is usually one of the best…. Not sure where the added races are on the schedule. A sunny ladies day Thursday is another treat(and a large crowd). By Saturday’s stellar race card, we are usually worn down from the parking lot parties, train rides back/forth and late dinners(tough life—no whining because we love the meet). I rent the morning clothes from Moss Bros, so a convenient location for pickup/return is important.
After a few years of staying in London, we tried a spa hotel close by, and last trip I stayed in Oxford while my grandson was schooling there( that would be my preference next time).
Though it surely has been nice;and incredibly less expensive doing both race days from my couch and tele.

unsolicited Tuesday thoughts Hope to be back early tomorrow and throughout the card Done before I noticed that we had a contest going
2:30 PALACE PIER has been dominant in his starts this year. Gosden/Dettori are strong beyond 2yos, and this colt will probably be 1/9 over here. So either we watch, try to beat him or play a gimmick. I can’t see him losing. O’Brien’s OUT OF AUSTRALIA rocked the US last year, and is the barn’s top choice, though I have always liked LOPE Y FERNANDEZ. As bomb bottom fillers, I like PRINCE EIJI, TOP RANK and REGAL REALITY. LORD GLITTERS was in serious form a few months ago, and is 5 of 9 in the money at Ascot. 20-1 seems high on him, though he won’t win this.
I like a tri key of 6/3-4-8-9-11 or pw 6/3-5-11/3-4-5-8-9-11 though it wont be worth the play and could lose maybe an xbox of 3-4-5-9-11 hoping for the HUGE upset--too pricey to start the meet as PP wins....
3:05 Supposedly Ward likes KAUFYMAKER best of his group. News to me as I wasn’t as sold moving on turf in with these. You know a lot more about his runners than me…..Aidan only runs one in here(THE ACROPOLIS)—somewhat unusual so he must like him(cheap pedigree) and with his top rider. I give a hard look at BERKSHIRE SHADOW, EBRO RIVER, GISBURN and MASSETO. Gosden runs two, with Dettori on TOLSTOY and interestingly a lower opening price on DHAHAB.
I will shotgun exacta box 2-6-8-10-14-15 and pray for a big finish….
3:40 BATTAASH won this impressively last year after a few seconds to BLUE POINT, and shouldn’t be anywhere near the 2-1 ml. Break and surgery make him a vulnerable favorite imo. EXTRAVAGANT KID makes it interesting for us, and will be bet by the US players. This is not Dubai however……3yo filly WINTER POWER could be very live—-Glass Slipper was good here last year before blowing away the BC turf sprinters. I like 8-9-11-12 to fill the bottom of the tri.
4:20 I somewhat like the Irish runners here…. I am a fan of the Harrington/Foley combo as a future power as they add new owners. They have LUCKY VEGA here, and the other Irish POETIC FLARE seems very strong. Other contenders on my tickets are BATTLEGROUND(my top non-Irish), THUNDER MOON, CHINDIT and the bomb NAAMOOS.
Unless way ahead I will probably quit for the day
I always feel like we get screwed in the pools over here, maybe it is changing due to popularity(more $$)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Day One spider. I'm kind of thinking along the same lines. My two cents follows.
Queen Anne: 6-Palace Pier (1-2) is hard to oppose in this spot, and if you did, I don't know that there are just one or two second tier choices to do it with. He's had two starts as a 4yo and won both easily, over good and soft ground. His numbers are far better than anyone else entered here. I'll be playing triples with him on top. 9- Regal Reality (20-1) is still low mileage for a 6yo, has run well enough right off the bench previously, and has the next best numbers. 10- Sir Busker (20-1) had a good season last year, won at the Royal meet over similar ground, and faced many of the top ones entered today. Don't overlook him. 11- Top Rank (15-1) m/l odds will drop significantly, turf mile record (8/5-0-2) is pretty stellar if Palace Pier wasn't already in. Beaten soundly by the favorite last time, but he had to bull his way out for room while Palace Pier snuck through on the rail and left them in his wake.
$1TRI- 6/9,10,11/ALL ($27)
Coventry: 1- Angel Blue (15-1) is 2-for-3 and very progressive, if I had to pick just one I'd take him. 6- Ebro River (6-1) had an eventful trip and won in spite of himself in last, has to prove himself on good ground and going another furlong, and going to and leaving the gate. 10- Masseto (5-1) has a win and a second, was runner-up to Castle Star in a GIII at the Curragh which points him out. Spreading underneath these three.
$1EX- 1,6,10/1,6,8,10,11,13,14,16 ($21)
King's Stand: As much as I like a few others I'll stick with 2- Battaash (9-5) until he fails me, he's just a few lengths better than the rest when he blasts away from the gate. Trying for a less expensive ticket here, playing tighter triples. Using logicals 8- Oxted (6-1) and 12- Liberty Beach (7-1) for second. A good longshot in here is 11- Keep Busy (20-1) which has terrific form at 5F and will likely be overlooked in the wagering.
$2TRI- 2/8,12/3,8,11,12,13 ($16)
St. James Palace: Another spread race. 6- Lucky Vega (7-1) has done little wrong in seven starts, just missed to Poetic Flare in the Newmarket Guineas, and may not have cared for the soft ground in the Curragh equivalent in his last. 8- Mostahdaf (9-2) is perfect in three outings, defeated the more experienced Highland Avenue in the Heron S., looks highly progressive. 11- Poetic Flare (4-1) races for the fifth time in nine weeks, won the English Guineas, was close in the French version, then was beaten a head by his stablemate in the Irish classic mile three weeks ago. Wouldn't doubt him or his trainer.
$1EX- 6,8,11/3,4,5,6,7,8,11 ($18)
Ascot Stakes: 6- Reshoun (15-1) won the Marsh Cup over good ground; 10- Elysian Flame (15-1) had trouble in last, won at Newbury over good ground start before that; 14- Coeur De Lion (12-1) won this race last year, prepped nicely at Chester for today; 17- Rochester House (15-1) has two decent preps for this, runs the occasional big race over good going; 18- Just Hubert (15-1) beat Rochester House at Goodwood last summer on good ground.
EXBOX- 6,10,14,17,18 ($20)
Wolferton: I'll probably get this one wrong, badly, because I had no real strong opinion going through the first time. 4- Solid Stone (9-2) is consistent in top-level handicaps, now is a Listed-winner with a convincing win last time, and Ryan Moore returns to the saddle. 13- Patrick Sarsfield (4-1) is the logical favorite, ultra-consistent at the distance, has faced better company than many of his opponents.
$1EX- 4,13/2,4,6,9,12,13,14 ($12)
Copper Horse: Highweight 1- On To Victory (7-1) ran well over hurdles this winter, was second to Hukum in his prep; 3- Themaxwecan (15-1) won the Queen's Cup in April, and was fourth in this event last year; 6- Sleeping Lion (10-1) has run very well over good ground here; 8- Throne Hall (8-1) 4yo Kingman gelding is highly progressive, looks the one to beat; 15- Arthurian Fable (15-1) was a close fifth in the King George V last year, then ran second in the Melrose, 4yo should be a big player here.
EXBOX- 1,3,6,8,15 ($20)
Good luck if you play today!

back this morning to fine tune a few wagers:
2:30 QUEEN ANNE Still can't get by #6 PALACE PIER, as he opens at the predicted 1/9 and won't go much higher. Need a bomb to run 2nd, or a cold exacta to make any $$. exacta 6/3-9
3:05 COVENTRY A crap shoot here, with a completely opposite shotgun strategy. Exacta box 2-6-8-10-11-12 #8 win after watching his last start(though class 4)
3:40 KINGS STAND Despite the trainer's comments, going against #2 BATTAASH. #8 OXTED is a high class sprinter who has hopefully been saving his best for today. Also like a 3yo filly, #16 WINTER POWER. Wondering if #3 EXTRAVAGANT KID can get going in time on a straight course in with this type. tri pw 8-16/2-3-8-11-12-16/2-3-8-9-11-12-14-16 expensive
4:20 ST JAMES PALACE Very interesting loaded race. Sticking with #6 LUCKY VEGA, who supposedly was spinning his wheels in the bog at the Curragh last out, and was stuck in the middle of a blanket finish at Newmarket. Plenty of others to like here also--no surprises about anyone running well. #1 BATTLEGROUND, #3 CHINDIT, #8 MOSTAHDAF, #9 NAAMOOS, #11 POETIC FLARE. #6 win xbox 1-3-6-8-9-11
5:35 WOLFERTON Alot of touting for Sir Stoute's #4 SOLID STONE #4 win xbox 4-6-9-13

Gosden knows how good Palace Pier is, but he also knows that he shuts it down a bit once he makes the front, which is frustrating, per post-race interview. Also didn't seem to tout his Dhabab in the second race, acted like he'll be better later on in the season, going longer. Interesting. Also, how about Lord Glitters running on strongly for fourth in a paceless race. You have to admire that horse.

Caught the first exacta, and did play the last two winners but blew the gimmicks. Great racing—firm turf
Despite picking winners only even going in to the 4th Frustrating…..didn’t really care for the runners-up in the last two
