Move up trainer, running in 4 stakes races at CD Saturday. Freeze samples.
Marty McGee @drfmcgee Sorry to report that Chasing Artie, a 3-time SW, collapsed and died following R8 today at #ChurchillDowns, his 12th career start, per owner Ken Ramsey. This follows a similar incident in which the @ramsey_Farm filly Parents Pride died following R8 Sat. night at CD. (1/2) 5:03 PM · May 2, 2023

This is the second horse in his stable to collapse and pass since the track opened on Saturday.... Not a breakdown, but collapse and die. I am not going to be so bold as to claim there is misuse of something illegal, but certainly appears something is amiss in the barn currently.

Yikes. Probably time for me to go back to wagering Hong Kong where I can read medication and veterinary reports before I plop my $$ down.
In US racing it's almost a crap shoot to find out who is doing what.....we don't know until a crisis happens .... and we learn everything "after the fact"
I didn't even know Firing Line had received shock wave therapy. I didn't know Big Brown had a total meltdown in his detention barn before the Belmont. I didn't know Baff was using Thyro-L, and I believe Asmussen was for a while, too.
I could go on....
Freeze samples for at least 5-10 years, but 5 years down the road my money has already been taken out of my wallet when the reports come back
the good news: We are getting better. I truly believe that. Future looks better and I will give it some time.

My filly was insured for her auction price of $350,000 from last April until this April. Could have renewed the policy for her death this year at the same valuation for 4%, declined. Fairly rare to insure from my experiences.

www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/churchill-expresses-concern-after-deaths-of-two-saffie-joseph-horses/“While a series of events like this is highly unusual, it is completely unacceptable. We take this very seriously and acknowledge that these troubling incidents are alarming and must be addressed. We feel a tremendous responsibility to our fans, the participants in our sport and the entire industry to be a leader in safety and continue to make significant investments to eliminate risk to our athletes. We have full confidence in our racing surfaces and have been assured by our riders and horsemen that they do as well.” Joseph had entered Accomplished Girl (Street Boss) in Wednesday's Mamzelle Overnight Stakes at Churchilll, but she was scratched from the race. The trainer, who is scheduled to saddle Lord Miles (Curlin) in Saturday's Derby, along with six other horses on the card, told Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde on Wednesday that he was considering scratching them as well while he waited for necropsy reports from the two who died. “I don't know what we're going to do,” Joseph told SI. “I have to decide whether we're going to scratch them or not. I'm very uneasy right now.”

She was visibly uncomfortable during the running and was eased at the top of the lane. Really sad.

More scratches coming. This is biggest story at CD but keep an eye on the surfaces. Plenty of horsemen concerned, not Laurel level yet.
DRF Stewards at Churchill Downs have granted a request by trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. to be allowed to scratch horses he trains from races at the track on Thursday and Friday, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission said. Joseph also said that he intends to ask for permission to scratch three horses on the Saturday card, though not his entrant in the Kentucky Derby.

i am guessing there will be at least 2 scratches in the derby to avoid any potential fallout from a less than 100% entry

keep an eye on the surfaces what ABOUT the surface(s)? are jocks ready to walk like at laurel? Saw FORTE stumble on the morning show in his gallop this morning? A horse who normally looks like twinkle toes walking on little clouds of air and could probably win Dancing With the Stars. That worried me.

RIP Chasing Artie - really feel down about it. he was a really good hard-tryin horselet...rip They are all hard trying. They didn't choose their careers. They race for our pleasure. Not one horse even in the lowest claiming barn I don't respect highly. but sorry about your horse ski, esp one that meant something to you. I get it.
