Hope they get lucky with some cooler weather. The Preakness has become racing's "Mr. Irrelevant" recently. It's going to win that award in spades next year when all the Derby runners except for the winner point for Saratoga.

Shortening the one TC race that is a true Classic doesn't make me happy. So much for TC races for me I guess. I will play foreign races instead.
How can they even THINK about shortening it to 1-1/4 is blapsemy to me.

At the current location, we could always book a nice room for less in the city and take the Penn train out and back.
An additional opportunity for the Springs facilities to get an extra week of big business-can't blame them.....
Besides, 3-4 days of up and down Broadway should be enough for anyone.
I could go for it, pending whether we go to Royal Ascot a week later
The distance change could lead to a much larger field, though Preakness could suffer(who cares?)
Could lead to distance changes on the undercard also

I really don't care about precedent. The inside joke among people into classic distance horses and pedigrees and breeding for 10F + in the U.S. has always been that shortening races is the way things are going to go here, that stamina breeding / training has become a thing of the past, and now it really is happening. I happen to be into that genre so for me it's important and this is PAINFUL. There weren't enough races carded at over 1-1/8 to begin with........and now we are shortening one of the "big ones". Less owners want to wait it out what it takes to train a true router...beause they DO need a lot more bottom and foundation. But let them have their faster money, I am not owning a racehorse so I have no right to tell them how to use their horses. I get it. I really do. May as well retire the patient, long distance router trainers as well. I wonder what they are thinking, they have to be sad as I am. Maybe in another 10 years the will all be running 5.5F ..... Let's just turn TBs in to glorified QHs.......may as well. I will get my kicks playing overseas now. I am losing interest in US racing. If a TB here can't run that far then I"m out. |

I understand your passion for the breed, but I don't think 1 race being run at a shorter distance for 1 year is going to have any effect on the breed. Oh c'mon. The idea that I would even entertain that "1 year" would "have an effect on the breed".......sheesh. I've been watching breeding for 25 years. Hundreds of blogs by true pedigree experts have expressed the same thoughts as I have......I collected them over last 20 years. Making me out as if I'm saying the "sky is falling" over 1 race being shortened this year----- is kinda insulting to my grasp of the situation.  |

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2 Looking at numbers out of the Wilson Chute Saratoga, Posts 8-10 (never have run more than 10) are 2-for-60 w/ an Impact score of -71% and an ROI of -72%, but sure... let's run the Met Mile there. @ejxd2 Favorites in posts 8-10 are 0/7. Incidentally, favorites in posts 1-3 are 20-for-44 with a +17% Impact & +7.8% ROI. I.e. huge advantage to horses drawn inside of the Wilson Chute. Met Mile dreams out the door for those drawn outside. |
