Betamethasone (Celestone or more likely in veterinary medicine BetaVet) which is a corticosteroid positive for Medina Spirit. Double the allowed amount but in the grand scheme of things, wouldn’t make much difference to the horse from a therapeutic standpoint. Still another positive test and will need to be addressed especially since Bagfert states it was never used in the horse. The post race sample was found to be 21 picograms while the stated withdraw is 10 picograms per ml in serum or plasma. The withdraw guidelines are 9mg in a single joint (administered IA - intrarticular-in the joint) 14 days out. It can be given IM (intramuscular) and typically results in a higher concentration and hanging around longer in the body. This is the same drug the resulted in Gamine’s failed test following the Oaks last year as well. www.onlinegambling.com/news/gamine-fails-kentucky-oaks-drug-test-baffert-team-disputes-result/There will be a big to-do for sure....

Where there's smoke...
How many other trainers in these big races have had violations?
Lidocaine patches and environmental contaminations that only happen to Baffert's horses? And now we have divine intervention because this drug was never, ever, administered. Ummm, yeah okay. Then what was?
New poll?

Bob, you need to alert your feed guys that what they are putting in your feed isn't as "undetectable" as they thought it was.

But seriously, we need to see the split sample come back. This is an infintesmal amount we are talking about. As much as I oont trust baffert this is 11 trillionths of 1 gram over acceptable limits. He says horse was not given any anti-inflammatories even 2 weeks before the race and seems ......genuinely suprised?
IN a way I think this may be racing "trying" to look like they're ON THE JOB ensuring fair racing. LOL
If they are ever going to get Baffert on something, let it be something worth the trip, you know? Just my gut on this.

oooopsie! Baffert's vet(s) appear not to know Betamethasone cannot show up in a bloodtest during the biggest race of the year. (I thought maybe they figured that out after Gamine.) Guess they don't scream when the bus wheels run over them, either. Proably have some good numbing medicine for that.

So now, Baffert is suing KHRC over the "source" of the Betamethasone detected in Medina Spirt's sample, despite that KY regs make no distinction regarding the source of a restricted medication.
Guess he's looking for corroboration of Tall Tales and Excuses.
5th horse in 13 months....seems to me he needs to hire a good Hollwood script writer to spin his tales, not more lawyers.

Guess he's looking for corroboration of Tall Tales and Excuses. 5th horse in 13 months....seems to me he needs to hire a good Hollwood script writer to spin his tales, not more lawyers. He's definitely looking to muddy the waters as much as he possibly can. He's slime. Saw that KHRC has an unopened urine sample they've refused to release for further testing Baffert wants done to "show" the ointment was the cause of the overage. I don't get what part of ZERO allowed is open for debate. I'd like to see KHRC let USADA have that urine sample and whatever blood samples they also have of MS and test for other substances that shouldn't be there, masked by the Betamethasone "ointment" positive. Monmouth Park, (which has been on my blacklist of tracks not to support since Navarro and Servis ran amok there with 35%+ win rates and upwards of 50% wins first after the claim, and MP averted their eyes doing nothing) headed by Dennis Drazen, came out saying they welcome Baffert with open arms. After all, he's done such great things for MP bringing his stars to the Haskell and walking away with a ton of money but I can't remember too many other times Baffert runs at MP. What a surprise that announcement was Dennis, appalling and disgusting. www.paulickreport.com/news/the-biz/a-valued-friend-of-monmouth-park-baffert-trainees-would-be-welcome-in-haskell/

Muddy the waters. Last three words reveal what this is all about.
Speaking during a court hearing June 11, attorneys associated with Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) first-place finisher Medina Spirit sparred with counsel for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission over the quantity of the colt's urine to be sent to a New York testing laboratory. In a complaint filed in advance of Friday's hearing, attorneys for Baffert and Zedan Racing Stables argued how betamethasone found its way into Medina Spirit is critical from both a regulatory and public relations standpoint.

More attention being focused on Baffert... www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/250960/report-74-equine-deaths-for-baffert-since-2000Baffert ranks third in the state of California for deaths per 1,000 starters (8.3), Jeff Bonde (8.12), Charles Treece (6.79) (I don't know him) have more deaths than Jerry Hollendorfer (6.25). CHRB has looked the other way with Baffert so many times it's a joke. And then the Stronach Group singles out Hollendorfer and bans him from running at any of their tracks because of deaths at Santa Anita? Santa Anita had plenty of others to choose from ahead of him, the stench is really bad.

By T. D. Thornton (From TDN) Last line says it all.
The Jockey Club (TJC) now wants to get involved in trainer Bob Baffert's federal lawsuit against the New York Racing Association (NYRA), which seeks to overturn his banishment from stabling and racing horses at Belmont Park, Saratoga Race Course, and Aqueduct Racetrack.
In a June 22 letter to United States District Court (Eastern District of New York), Susan Phillips Read, an attorney for TJC, asked permission to file an “amicus” brief that she believes will “provide the Court with a unique perspective and information to assist in deciding the pending motion for preliminary injunction.”
Baffert was told by NYRA that he was not welcome to stable or race at the association's three tracks on May 17 in the wake of his disclosure that Medina Spirit (Protonico) had tested positive for betamethasone after winning the GI Kentucky Derby. That revelation by Baffert was later confirmed by split-sample testing at two different labs approved by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, but no ruling has yet been issued over those findings.
On June 14, Baffert filed a civil complaint against NYRA, alleging that the association-level ban violates his Fourteenth Amendment constitutional right to due process. He wants a preliminary and permanent injunction ordered against NYRA to prevent his further banishment from those tracks, claiming that if that does not happen, he will suffer immediate and irreparable harm.
The betamethasone finding in the Derby was the fifth positive test in a Baffert trainee for a regulated but prohibited-on-race-day drug within the past year (two others were for lidocaine, one was for dextrorphan, and another also for betamethasone). It was the third during that time frame to occur in a Grade I stakes.
While all of this has been going on, Baffert has also been embroiled in a long and complicated court and racing commission battle in California over whether to disqualify 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify from that year's GI Santa Anita Derby because of a scopolamine finding.
“TJC has long believed that horses must only race when they are free from the effects of medication, and vociferously advocated for the passage of The Horseracing Safety and Integrity Act,” Read wrote. “TJC thus has a special interest in sharing with the Court its perspective regarding the deleterious effects of improper drug use on the health of horses, the Thoroughbred racing industry, and public trust in the honesty of competition.
“Further, TJC, through its wholly-owned subsidiaries and Thoroughbred Safety Committee, has access to information not necessarily available to the parties,” Read wrote.
Read wrote that she has asked the attorneys for both parties for consent to file TJC's amicus brief. NYRA's counsel has given permission; Baffert's has not.

“It is the Stewards’ opinion that had this Board of Stewards heard the Justify and Hoppertunity complaints prior to August 23, 2018 both horses would have been disqualified.”
