Day 1
And the 62 runners are off and running in the Saratoga Cup and like Frankie Dettori and Madame Blum we are all looking forward to having the time of our lives this summer at the Spa. Heavy overnight rain however resulted in all grass races being off the turf and somewhat limited the opening day participation. Beetlebomb had a gut feeling in the opener and Pedalcar was looking for a bold victory but just like Geraldo Rivera they both ended up looking at an Empty Tomb ( $15.00). The second race was decimated to only three runners but none of us were crazy enough to risk a pick on Amanda’s Folly ($3.20) . Meanwhile that familiar ringing noise you heard after the third race was the sound of Jacckk8 kaching in on first time starter Punch the Clock ( $17.80) to open both his and our account for this year’s contest.
The result of the fourth race made us all want to Run for the Hills ($9.30) but Onion had the purrfect response when Brown Eyed Cat ($7.90) came from last to first in the fifth. Nobody felt confident in Strong State ($4.10) in the sixth while we were not shaken or stirred by either Sunday Girl ($9.80) or Crushed Ice ( $8.80) in the seventh and eighth races respectively. However we got back on track when Forego and NDSC32 became the day one leaders after Warrior Johnny ( $21.00) proved far too brave for his rivals in the ninth .
We all missed a huge chance to get off to a brilliant start when The Queen’s M G ($90.00) triumphed under Dylan Davis in an eventful Schuylerville which it would take a thousand words to summarize.
To be concluded after the NO POLITICS press conference 😜

Amanda's Folly...I remember her fondly...my stable star from last year still making money. Claim price on January 6th, 2023 $25,000
I should have played her in the Saratoga contest for sentimental reasons.

Day 2
Now that Beryl has blown through normal service was resumed at Saratoga on Friday with races back on the turf and PhlierFreak took immediate advantage by banking on a Reliable Lady ($15.40) in the opener. Surprisingly we didn’t take a shot on Dillinger ($5.90) in the second and Clever Mischief ($13.00) fooled us all in the third. Lots of chips were placed on Aleah Aleah in the fourth but the spin of the wheel went the way of Twenty Six Black ($7.20)
Disco Deano ($71.50) was the longshot winner of the day in the fifth but the musical mood switched in the next two races although none of us were hooked on Classic Time ($4.10) or Classic Creation ( $20.60) . New forum member Shebainfront made an impressive first impression with Miss Justify ($7.50) in the eighth while Twirling Queen ($9.40) took home the candy. In the finale Saratoga race goers were treated to a Frankie Dettori flying dismount as Over and Ollie ($9.30) did not get into another fine mess to record a popular win in the finale.
Finally at the track today Ten Furlongs and Doctor Disaster discussed the chances of them achieving their mission of winning this year’s Saratoga Cup ( Warning .. this video will destruct in five seconds )

Day 3
A beautiful Saturday at the Spa although after the first six races it seemed that the famous spring water had been contaminated by calcium carbonate . Dare To Breeze ($3.10) needed to do little more than that in the opener while only Kinley 2017 thought that the victory by Carl Spackler ($3.50) in the second was a Cinderella story. Top Gunner ($5.60) cruised to victory in the third and Real Quiet made some noise after Illuminare ($4.10) lit up the tote board in the fourth. Ozzy got off the mark with Rebel Red ($6.70) in the fifth and it appeared that it was Strictly Taboo ($7.70) for a long shot to win as we reached the halfway mark in the card.
Fortunes finally changed for the better in the seventh when Turffan , Italian Stallion and Merasmag made a Tough Catch ($15.00) to end the innings. Reynolds Channel ($21.60) and Taking Candy ($13.60) continued the run of decent prices in the eighth and ninth. Jacckk8 has made an all right start to this year’s contest and he was kaching in again after White Beam ($11.60) took the Grade 1 Chad Brown Stakes. Newcomer MikeSal57 ended the day in style with the late double of Mo Plex ($5.70) and Rithm Nic ($6.00) , the latter also being the choice of Shebainfront.

Day 4
An eventful Sunday at the Spa started brightly for our group with Kimchi Cat ($10.80) scoring in the opener to get MVerrone off the mark. Tivy ($3.50) and Russi ($5.50) chalked up the next two races but unsurprisingly none of us were tempted at those low odds. I’m not sure if it was a hunch play or not but former champ The Bobtailnag got his attempt to regain the title back on the right track when My Kentucky Girl ($31.60) came home in the fourth. Itza Mirrakle ($10.80) has been going through a bad spell but was still able to take the fifth.
Sheets players probably had Deep Satin ($3.70) in the sixth but it didn’t tickle our fancy. Track regular Doctor Disaster came out of the trenches to take the seventh with Battle of Normandy ($7.00) but British royalty fans missed out on Unstable Prince ($39.20) who was never harried when winning the eighth. Meanwhile the Quick Call Stakes , named after one of our forum members was classily won by European invader Star of Mystery ( $3.30) . In the finale Seinfeld fans TC and SB West enjoyed a barnstorming finish when the much maligned NYRA stewards controversially put up Write Off Jerry ( $13.00)

Day 5
The second week of Saratoga started off like the first with powerful overnight storms knocking out the turf program again with the opening steeplechase the most notable casualty. This misfortune obviously angered Ten Furlongs and John Halvorsen as they responded by cheering home the winner of the third race in Bellacose ($14.80) fashion. On another day of mostly short priced winners there wasn’t much to Hue ($5.90) and cry about and the Value Area ($6.20) was extremely limited but DB Lakers and the aforementioned John Halvorsen were holding the Aces when Deck of Cards ($20.80) came up trumps in the seventh. In the finale Joly B got off the mark as MTO entry Maturity Date ($3.60) yielded a positive return.

Day 6
Fast and firm , the words we all love to hear , especially at Saratoga on a Thursday but despite the recent heatwave none of us had a Smokin Hot Kitty ($6.30) in the opener and we couldn’t Stop Giggling ($28.80) in the second . Tipsy Runner ($8.20) wasn’t on the bar tab for the third and The Big Torpedo ($3.00) sunk us in the fourth and there were more than a few awkward Squints ($11.40) at the form book as we missed out on the fifth .
MikeSal57 finally got us off the mark in the sixth with ABientot ($13.20) and we will be seeing him soon on the leaderboard. Reserve Currency ($9.30) got no change from our group in the seventh and we were all sour on the chances of Sweet Duchess ($13.00) in the eighth. DB Lakers came out firing today with several selections and went to the top of the leaderboard with the highest priced winner to date as Procter Street ($36.80 ) proved to be the perfect destination in the ninth. Very Stormy was a popular choice in the finale but it was Onion who ended up celebrating, no doubt with the help of a red solo cup as Hey Toby ($5.00) stormed his way to victory.

Day 7
it’s been a bit of a slow burner so far but it seems that the contest is finally starting to heat up with some nice winners today and decent participation from the group. TC and Joly B got the day off to a winning start with Governor Sam ($3.30) winning the popular vote in the opener. Bitowisdom probably looked at the room temperature before deciding on Its Hot in Here ($9.10) in the second and while Unmatched Wisdom ($2.80) may prove to be a very good horse his odds were too prohibitive for even TC and Joly B in the third. Meanwhile MySaladDays was looking for a decent ROI in the fourth and Six Per Cent ($15.80) duly obliged.
The word was certainly out on Ori ($23.00) in the fifth who put on a game performance much to the delight of DavidBrown , Merasmag and MikeSal57. Unfortunately after that bright start we drew a blank for the rest of the card as Under Who’s Radar ($14.00) proved to be just that in the sixth. Critical Threat ($14.00) was not on our radar either in the seventh and Princess Madison ($6.40) was an avenue that went unexplored in the eighth. Root Cause ($6.00) was a cause deemed not worth pursuing in the ninth but in the finale instead of focusing in on geopolitics we really should have concentrated on how Aunt Yola ($51.50) had been performing .

Day 8
Dylan Davis had a memorable afternoon at Saratoga but several of our forum members also had a decent Saturday starting with Ozzy who proceeded Without Caution ($28.40) in the opener to continue his bright start to this year’s contest. Our current leader DB Lakers however is setting a very hot pace and Union Dolly ($27.40) increased his lead after finding her way back to where she belongs (the winners circle ) in the sixth.
JolybB has his sights set on the most winners award again and Major Dude ($6.10) chalked up another win for him in the ninth. My Salad Days had a few selections today but it wasn’t until the ninth race before she was able to Pounce ($13.80) with a nice score. TC is hoping to go 40/40:and is now up to 3/3 as Thorpedo Anna ($2.50 ) recovered from a slow start to take the feature. In the finale MikeSal57 kept the pressure on the leader as El Rezeen ($10.40) triumphed to give the afore mentioned Dylan Davis four winners on the day.

Day 9
it was certainly an eventful day on Sunday with lots of runners and only one major scratch on the day. With the most selections so far in this contest there was a chance that we might go through the card and My Salad Days got things off to a great start with the first of her maximum twelve selections Ziggie Pops ($12.80) heading the charts in the opening steeplechase . Propro kept the ball rolling in the second race with Broughty Ferry ($12.20) becoming Sunday’s second most famous Scottish sporting town of the day. It may have been well passed breakfast time but Bitowisdom and MaumeeRiverAngler still had a bit of a Java Buzz ($6.90) after the third. On what was a very pleasant summer’s day hot enough to melt your popsicle, SB West may well have been tempted to have a champagne perry and go for a Sun Kissed Soirée ($18.60) after his selection prevailed in the fourth.
New forum member CoupledEntry should have kept the winning streak going in the fifth but their selection of Raging Sea ($5.30) was posted a mere three hours after that pesky noon deadline. Still I’m sure there are Brighterdazeahead ($4.80) although a Virgin Colada ($11.20) may not be strong enough to ease the pain of missing out. Hard currency may no longer be accepted at the track but that did not stop My Salad Days and Ten Furlongs cashing an Awesome Czech ( $10.80) after the eighth . Immersive ($22.80) was impressive in the ninth but it was Moore’s Law ($30.40) who caught the attention of contest leader DBLakers as well as Beetlebomb and The Bobtailnag to adjourn the day on a high note.

Day 10
Amazingly we are already into week three of the meet and DB Lakers is sitting on three figures and setting a very hot pace in the contest. Despite overnight rain which stopped early Wednesday morning we were on the turf today and race goers who arrived at the track expecting to have Two Tons of Fun ($6.70) were duly rewarded in the opener . Beetlebomb managed to get Out on Bail ($4.90) in the second but our winning shouts were just an Echo in Eternity ( $13.00) in the third. DavidBrown41 doubled his score with Two Jay’s Way ($12.60) in the fourth as we entered a sequence of mid price winners. My Salad Days is on a good run at the moment and must have been laughing with Italian Stallion as Funny Uncle ($13.60) proved he was no joke in the fifth.
SB West might not have been money laundering today but he was Spinning Colors ($13.40) as he cleaned up in the sixth. TimS70 practiced what he preached when Spirit Wind ($12.00) proved to be an honorable hit when she blew past her rivals in the featured seventh race. We were all lost at sea when Paros ($9.10) took the eighth but Jacckk8 picked a peck of pickled peppers in the finale with Tongue Twister ($10.20)

Day 11
Another fast and firm day at the Spa saw two former contest champions open their account and a new leader in the highest priced winner category. However no one gave Second Chance ($11.40) a first chance in the opener and Anotherdaygoneby ($14.00) was also passed over in the second. Meanwhile PhlierFreak flew up the leaderboard as longshot Boss Lady Bailey ($48.60) outran her odds to be much the best in the third. Salestopper and Jacckk8 were also kaching in as Elle est Forte proved too strong for her rivals in the fourth. Unlimited Potential ($2.90) who was bought for $750k and claimed today for $16k took the fifth but was unbackable as a coupled entry while several of us hoping to be on the brink of success in the sixth were never really In The Chase($6.20) .
Reddington ($17.40) failed to make our blacklist while taking the seventh and those betting against Dolomite ($3.70) were always facing a severe uphill challenge in the eighth. Star Guest was a popular choice in the feature but despite receiving a late invite she never showed up and ended up in the rear view mirror of DontLookBackAtAll (($19.20) who got Cherokee Scot off the mark at the fourth attempt. In the finale NDSC32 and Ten Furlongs received a nice boost as MizterTonic ($17.20) propelled them both into the top ten under flying Frankie Dettori .

Day 12
It may have been raining in Paris but it was dry and sunny at Saratoga where Indypacer got off the mark thanks to Valenzan Day ($11.40) in the opening race with 6 of the 8 runners being claimed . Trainer iGary Contessa is an accomplished musician and he certainly was hitting the right notes when Play Free Bird ($9.60) survived an objection to win the second. World Record ($14.60) was first out of the blocks and never looked back when sprinting to success to take the gold in the third. Only one horse was selected in the fourth but Beetlebomb was on easy street as Tough Street ($20.40) showed his rivals the way home . Cash Bail was a popular choice in the fifth but couldn’t break free and Royal Browne ($7.10) rolled for Rick (Astley) Dutrow. .
Ozzy has started the contest well and the leaders better watch out after he was seen Accelerating ($7.10) in the sixth. Forego was vesting in the seventh but both Bitowisdom and Indypacer had a Better Bet ($6.60) . JohnnyBatTBD made his first appearance a winning one proving along with Italian Stallion and Pedalcar that Surveillance ($9.50) can be profitable in the eighth. Scotland ($10.00) finally gave Cherokee Scot something to cheer about this summer in the ninth with Ozzy and The Bobtailnag happy to join in the celebrations. In the finale questions were being asked about first time starter Rhetorical ($6.00) but he answered them in spectacular fashion as confidently predicted by SpiderJohn .

Day 13
Ignoring the hysteria over listeria the UIC group were out in force on Saturday and had a dandy day at Saratoga almost going through the card for the first time this season. In the opener Ten Furlongs continued his progress up the leaderboard and Maumeeriverangler was pleased to Simulate ($19.60) him. Defending champion Sounds of Saratoga has made a slow start but both him and Cruzan finally got the ball rolling in the second race with their winning pick being in well before the Noonzio ($17.80) deadline . In the third race Amundson ($3.50) made every pole a winning total as 5 Wide’s bankroll headed North for once. We haven’t heard too much from Real Quiet so far this year but after selecting the fourth race winner he should at least be able to Speak Easy ($3.50) from now on. Sadly we missed out in the fifth race as Game Warden ($10.00) thwarted all our efforts to bag a winner.
Real Quiet had more to shout about again in the sixth as Nakatomi ($9.30) put up a die hard performance in the sprint feature. Meanwhile Tex had the luck of the Irish to be sure as Chancer McPatrick ($6.70) showed what all the blarney was about in taking the seventh. Lamourna ($9.50) was a very popular winner of the eighth sending Camourous , Joly B and The Bobtailnag to the bar with Buckabeer buying ! Meanwhile 5 Wide , Ozzy, Ten Furlongs, SpiderJohn and Salestopper should also have a good night as West Hollywood ($8.30) took the walk of fame in the ninth. The Jim Dandy resulted in a battle down the stretch between the two favorites and it was Coupled Entry and Tex who had the requisite Fierceness ($5.60) to prevail. Buckabeer and TheBobtainag were seeing things with perfect clarity today and Gem Mint Ten ($15.40) was the jewel in their crowns in the eleventh. In a very seasonal finale Summer Whirl ($6.00) had the necessary spring in her step to outpoint Autumn in what for one of us was a Forego conclusion.

Day 14
Not the sleepy Sunday we expected as week three of the contest ended in spectacular style with Bert Convy making a huge move including the highest priced winner so far . In the opener TC, PartsNut and Turbine were happy to cash in on a tip that obviously came from a Reliable Source ($4.10). However we will be haunted by the fact that we didn’t see Ghostly Girl ($16.20) in the second although Indypacer was aware of She’salittleedgy ($4.50) in the third. The unluckiest loser in contest history Bert Convy has good reason to believe he is owed one and proved that he can still do magic when America’s Vow ($72.50) shocked us all in the fifth.
Bitowisdom meanwhile decided to join in the fun on this sunny day where it was Reigning Flowers ($30.80) in the winners circle after the sixth. It was a case of no Souper Quest ($8.00) for you in the seventh but Bert Convy showed himself to be the man with the golden gun today as Scaramanga ($29.40) shot home to win the eighth . After a couple of missteps TC decided to go back to Plan A (picking favorites) and Silver Knott ($2.80) duly obliged when bowling along the green in front to win the feature. Lots of picks in the finale but Camourous was the only one not to get a slap in the face as Laurel Valley ($6.00) proved too hardy for his rivals.

Day 15
Week 4 at Saratoga started on an inauspicious note with NYRA Bets falling out with Twin Spires in Episode 325 of How Horse Racing Shoots Itself in the Foot. And just to compound matters the weather decided not to cooperate leading most of us to focus on Glorious Goodwood or in my particular case Lovely Leicester where I should be so lucky. With the opening steeplechase race canceled we started off in race 2 where Squire Creek ($6.40) ensured a good knight for Pedalcar but no one even risked a fiver on Irish Tenor ($3.50) in the turd. Leftembehind ($23.20) left us all behind in the fourth and we were all just Slightly Busy ( $6.60) to even bother about the fifth.
The heavy rain may have caused Mascara ($11.00) to be running fast in the sixth where Beetlebomb was the only one with eyes on her. Meanwhile Turbine had a handle on who would reign in the seventh as Prince James ($25.00) proved to be king. Little to speak of in the eighth where Poca Mucha ($22.60) came out on top and in the finale Bold Ambition ($7.00) capped a miserable day for our group (but not for me) 😜

Day 16
its the first of August and we may have had our first contest winner as PartsNut sets the target for the Wooden Spoon prize with a 1 for 40 effort amassing $4.10 in the process. Lots of scratches again today due to the overnight rain and No one felt at home with Chateau ($8.90) in the opener . The second race was worth a look though and both MVerrone and PhlierFreak managed to give it the Side Eye ($6.40) Congratulations .are due to CindyLouJazz who not only opened her account in the third race but at the same time achieved Peak Popularity ($3.60).
With our attention on the Olympics we missed out on Key Point ($11.20) in the fourth while Ariana Rye ($5.40) was not our tipple of choice in the fifth. MoDiesel ($10.00) may have pushed on the gas in the sixth but we still came up empty. 5 Wide thought he was On A Spree in the seventh but the stewards believed otherwise and awarded the race to Complete Agenda ($16.20) much to the delight of Turbine. NDSC32 is moving up the table and I’m sure he won’t stop until he’s had enough after Jackson Heights ($28.00) took the eighth. Several of us were relying on Eternal Hope in the feature but McKulick ($6.60) dashed those hopes . However Bitowisdom at least ended the day on a winning note for our group as Miss Lao ($6.00) led from gate to wire in the finale.

Day 17
The Hall of Fame Induction and the baseball jersey give away at the track were the highlights of a very low key Friday for our group at Saratoga. The winner of the opener was Two Sharp ($3.00)for us and we did not Fly Right ($10.20) in the second while also failing to find a Power Seeker ($9.10) in the third. It did not get any better in the fourth resulting in a Tricky Temper ($3.70) and we were still searching for our Fantasy Performer ($15.80) by the time the fifth race ended.
We still couldn’t Unleash The Power ($4.50) in the sixth and Maggie T ( $7.40) was too conservative for us in the seventh. In the eighth it’s all good for William Buick as Cinderella’s Dream ($2.60) proved to be exceptional by design much to the delight of TC who rocketed up the table. it was a Neat ($9.00) finish in the ninth but by that time we were already on the rocks . However we finally got some joy in the finale as the Evaluation ($9.60) of Phlier Freak and Propro was the right one.

Day 18
Here in Florida we are getting ready for Tropical Storm Debby but the downer today was defintely at Saratoga where not only were all races off the turf but two stakes races were canceled so definitely a case of Whitney we have a problem. With half the field scratched in the opener it didn’t take much effort to Reach for the Rose ($3.70) and that was not a thorny problem for winner leader TC (The Chalkmeister). The second race was very eventful as Smilensaycheese ($25.60) not only got her picture taken but elevated Bert Convy to the top of the leaderboard ( a place he has been before , notoriously) . 5Wide came up NOPOLITICS when Deck of Cards ($3.10) held all the aces in the third and also increased TC ‘s lead in the most odds on winners selected side contest 😜. Staying on the cards theme surprisingly no one decided to Call Her Bluff ($4.60) in the fourth although to be fair the odds were probably too high. Kinley2017 made his first appearance in this recap when Uncaged ($12.60) took the fifth but disappointingly did not follow up with the logical Ferocious ($8.90). In the sixth.
Ways and Means ($3.40) was untested in the Test but JolyB just beat the noon deadline in time to make tonight’s highlight reel in the ninth with Film Star ($3.70) . In the Whitney only Eye123 was heard to be singing “Hello Mary Lou , Goodbye Heart “ as Arthur’s Ride ($15.80) took him from the moon to New York City but I guess that was the best that he could do.
