GOING: Good-to-firm
CRL R3- 1m3f (1m3f39y) Cumberland Plate Handicap (Class 4) (3yo+ 0-85)
#4- Born Ruler (4-1) is an improving 4yo son of Kingman from Sir Mark Prescott, who has been going great guns lately. Horse has learned much of its lessons on the AW, but has a turf record of (3//1-2-0.) Had an issue of hanging badly to its right at Sandown last time, get cheekpieces today to hopefully help with that problem. Rider change to Paul Mulrennan, not sure where Luke Morris is today. WIN- 4 EX- 4/3,8,9,10,11
CRL R4- 7f (6f195y) Eternal Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies) (Class 1) (3yo)
Bit of a headscratcher in this one. #1- Jabaara (3-2) won a similar Listed event at Musselburgh three weeks ago, picks up a 3lb penalty for that but still looks the one to beat. I'll try to do that with #5- Key to Cotai (12-1) who will be a better price but nothing like the m/l odds (who makes these anyway?) Consistent filly took a 7F handicap at Newmarket in May, Tom Marquand seems to have this one figured now after four rides on her.
WIN/PLACE- 5
CRL R5- 1m (7f173y) Carlisle Bell Consolation Handicap (Class 4) (3yo+)
For horses which were entered in, but were eliminated from the field, the Carlisle Bell Handicap (Race 6.) Low confidence race for me. #4- Garden Oasis (5-1) is an early speed type from Tim Easterby, has had a good season so far with a win and two thirds. Was sixth in the Carlisle Bell last year off an eight pound higher ranking, should go well with this lesser bunch. #8- Highwaygrey (6-1) is another Tim Easterby runner, has slowly been rounding into form this season, has always been campaigned as a 10F horse which comes from the back. Will be looking for a solid pace, maybe Garden Oasis can oblige.
EX- 4,8/4,5,8,10
CRL R6- 1m (7f173y) Carlisle Bell Handicap (Class 4) (3yo+ 0-85)
It is very hard to win a race like this twice, but I think #12- Mostawaa (10-1) might have the right stuff. Won it last year under a strong Hollie Doyle ride from the front. Finished mid-pack in five races in Dubai over the winter, but returned to form on reappearance at York last time, running third going an extra furlong which should be a good stamina builder for today. In 5lbs lower than last year. I also like the highweight in the field #1- Redarna (12-1) which gets 7lbs off for apprentice Archie Young. Veteran 10yo gelding has won here four times, including last August going 7F over good ground. Three conditioning runs this year, should fire best shot today.
