Repole's 2 year old, Mentee, a full brother to Fierceness broke the 5f track record at Aqueduct on Saturday and earned an 88 Beyer figure doing so.
Obviously, I know nothing about Beyer speed calculations, etc.
Breaking a track record that goes back to 1963 and an 88 Beyer score just doesn't seem to add up.
What am I not understanding?

My question is how many 5f races are run at Aqueduct? Typically spring racing is held at Belmont then moves to Saratoga back to Belmont then Aqueduct for the winter. I wonder how many 5f races are actually carded there as certainly not many for 2YOs.

NYRA always ran 4.5f races in April and then 5f and up at Belmont starting in May. |

I was ready to bet heavily against Mentee today given the likely hype and him being over bet. Hate to see him come up sick and scratch but Bruno de Julio answered the question in a post
“All the furor about by his nose track record performance at a distance of 5f, a distance only used 5 times in 20 years at Aqueduct”
That answers that and here’s hoping for a quick recovery for the horse.
