a while back won a sattelite into an 1100 buy in game played on belmont stakes day. was a complete freeroll as one of every 11 players won a seat for 135. because i stone bubbled the 10 am that morning it paid out 270. took the 135 profit, tried the 1 pm the same day and binked it.
on game day, there were 57 runners by the end of late registration and first was paying 21k. great structure for a monthly. starts for everyone w 200bb. 30 minute levels til late then it's 45 minutes. stacked a lot of villains. played eight hours plus and finished an in the money 6th.
two hands i remember.
one i had kings and 3 bet in position preflop.
the flop came j76, the small cards were spades. i downbet the flop a little, one third pot. villain check raised there, but on the smallish side. looked intentional, cuz he left a pot size stack behind.
turn bricked a 3 and villain checked. i checked back.
river paired the 3 and both 3s were red, completing no draws. he shoved. made no sense. only had to be best a third of the time so i called. thought he was good w aj spades.
other hand don't really recall the specifics, except to say i ran an insane semibluff turn check shove overbet to win a 130bb pot well after late registration had closed. remember the action, but not what i had or stack size etc.
pre i raised middle position. late position 3 bet. i called.
flop i checked. he bet. i called. coordinated board. something like j98 two tone, clubs and hearts.
turn i checked. he bet. i shoved. something like a 7 that made it two clubs plus two hearts. j987.
remember thinking this would be credible, cuz there's gernerally three reasons to bet. 1 for value. 2 for folds. 3. for protection. in a vacuum it leans alot more to protection. also, in live poker, you'll notice that turn overbet shoves have an inordinately low frequency of bluffs when compared to the same on flops and rivers. villain folded kings face up.
i'll say uncertainly i probably held a hand like aq suited hearts. protection wise, do think jj 99 and 88 as well as suited q10, a10, 98, j10 and j9 all get played this way a ton. insane spot. dunno if it was good or horrible, but it worked.
