Ive had Batten Down in my virtual stable for a while, slated for this race before i knew it would be shortened.  However, i think he really needs at least 11f.

Despite that I will not be able to add this year's Belmont Junior to my stats (too much of a difference in distance and a completely different surface and over-all track dimensions) i somewhat agree with 5wide about the meaning of this race anymore, esp if a tc is not on the line. I am always surprised at how often the belmont winners are sent off to turkey or japan or somewhere else...are u.s. commercial breeders even interested in 11F ++ horses. It takes longer to put proper foundation into them and we have so few longer distance races for their types here.

If i had mystic dan i wouldnt run him again in this...lost ground from stretch call to finish, would wait for haskell or even bcc.

Speaking of bcc, maybe that race should be 1-1/2 miles. Always thought it should be.

Animal Kingdom was injured just after the start of Belmont. Kept him out the rest of the year. Maragh got days for knocking Johnny V out of his saddle.

Isn’t Batten Down the 1/2 or full to Tacitus?
He has the same hanging tendency…. Bet to place imo but usually odds on

Full to Tacitus and also 4yo mare Scylla that won impressively on Derby undercard.

Just mentioned Batten Down because I inserted to my virtual stable after he ran 2nd to Corporate Power at GS way back in February, on a (shallow and brief) sireline glance because 8 of the last 10 Belmont stakes winners descended through AP Indy's son Pulpit.

I'm always adding horses who I think may eventually run in a TC race.

But as in the case of Mo Donegal, seems to imbue more stamina when on the mare side of pedigree.

This year, gotta find one like NEST, who ran well at both Saratoga and Belmont, so would not be as affected by the racecourse and distance change?  But the AP Indy dam or broodmare sire often tends to throw place horses, i.e., Nest, Bluegrass Cat, Dunkirk, Patch, not winners?

Agree.  Which is why i will not be playing the Belmont this year.  But i often handicap races i wont play, just out of interest in the sport.

I will watch to see how many of the 2500 microshare owners of StG, they can get into a photo, if he wins, as it looked like quite a trick to get 200 of 'em into the winners circle photo for the Preakness .

I wonder how many will show up at SAR.  That would make an interesting wager.
