Most everyone said there was a pace meltdown in the Derby. BRIS says the race was 2 lengths slower than par at the 1st call and 6 lengths slower at the 2nd call.

Final half went in 53.03.
Only one horse in the top 5 after 6f hit the board.

But did the frontrunners fade because the pace burned them up? Or did they fade because they were fainthearted (Fierceness), foolish (Just Steel), hopeless (Epic Ride) and distance challenged (Track Phantom)?
46 3/5, 1:11 1/5 is not fast. Four frontrunning flops don't change that, imo.
