Thanks for posting for me Dell! I will say with the renovations the grandstand side from the entrances to the track apron, Churchill looks nothing like it used to! The paddock is nice and spacious for horses but is very different than anything I’ve ever been around before. For horsemen, if you want to get in to and out of the paddock on big race days I suggest you allow ample time to do so as the design for the movement of people in and out was not a primary concern. Don’t say you haven’t been warned!
If you enjoy luxurious amenities and seating then the renovations are right up your alley. Very swank and modern but it doesn’t really feel like being at the track to me. Of course I’m more at home on the backside against the rail with a cooler so I am not the clientele they are trying to attract. Curious to hear the thoughts of others.

Hoop, that is the tunnel connecting the new Woodford Reserve Club to the paddock. It has it’s own access to the paddock which should be interesting….

Let me tell you, construction is far from finished! It’s serviceable for the week but there are going to have to be some major modifications. I am telling you, horsemen are going to be livid.

I am just an idiot with an iPhone who happens to have access is all. If I couldn’t share a bit of what I see that I thought a few of the fine folks here at Up In Class might like, I might not even consider coming.

Dell, Quite a long long day but a few photos for you to share. Congrats on nailing the winner! Alas my weekend was barely subsided by my pay, if at all but at least I had a good view of the action. 29 Derbies in the books now for me, the 2nd now for Mrs. Ozzy during that span. More to share later but now, sleep for a couple of days! Mystic Dan in the paddock Past the stands first time in Derby 150 Nearing the wire Finish Derby 150 winner

Those are some fantastic images David! The one of you with the missus should be on a wall in your house somewhere, you guys are decked out in style! Thanks for letting all of us at UIC once again have an inside look at Derby week, and the winners circle in the aftermath. Great stuff!

Thanks Tom. I am sure it will be as it was taken be a real professional, my friend Skip Dickstein who does this stuff for a living. That’s just the one he took with his phone so I can’t imagine what he will send me from his camera. The images he has of the race are incredible and should be up at the BloodHorse site if anyone wants to check them out.
As Dell can attest that email was sent very late last night (or early this morning) so I meant to say my pay may barely subsidize my wagering as in I stunk up the joint handicapping, not just in the Derby but for the week in general. I hope others had some success such as Dell. I’ll go through the phone again soon and get pics from my guys compiled and try to share a few more.

I bumped into him a few times when we both were working in Albany, and for the last dozen years at Saratoga, in the paddock and winners circle area. He's a fine lensman. Lives in Saratoga, I believe. Yep he is one of the best professionally and an even better person. Worked at the Albany Times Union for years and I’ve always coined him the unofficial mayor of the Spa as he knows everyone. Certainly miss visiting and having him host us as we haven’t attended in over 20 years now.

A few final photos from Derby 150 The first from Skip Dickstein - a duty that never gets old. He told me to point at him so I did and he took the picture! From the Winner’s Circle we make our way to the Derby Museum and place the garland on display for the official celebration to come. This was taken by one of the State Troopers who assisted getting through the crowd. It appears as if I am unwilling to part with the garland! Who knows if I’ll get another chance.

I never “nab” a rose. Now if one happens to fall off along the way….
Suit is fine from Derby. The one from Oaks was a little worse for the wear with the rain.
