Watch the works of horses that you follow Do not trust or accept the times or comments If your horse is fit, you don’t need a bullet or fast work

Believe this is the third work over the strip in 10 days which is somewhat atypical for Mott. Understandable for Just FYI who is playing catch-up after missing time. With this guy, this time isn’t flashy but this gallop out shows me a horse who appears to be doing very very well and shouldn’t be overlooked if he continues to hold form this week in the lead up. Can he work out a trip from Post 19? x.com/kentuckyderby/status/1784602886707572908?s=46&t=JJaLAA0eRm2QRBv9aZJ2bA

Perhaps my memory is off, but I can't ever recall so many fast works at CD in the couple of weeks before Oaks/Derby. Think it's possible that is a function of the track itself for whatever reason this year. Perhaps we should temper enthusiasm on some of these works if we are basing that on the times. I do agree with spider and others that looking at the work:i.e. how easily and smoothly they were moving, much more than the raw times.

Great point Shoes, just my opinion but the track really did seem to “speed up” starting Thursday. It certainly appeared to play fast Saturday evening as even Steve Assmusen commented on his filly’s winning time in the stakes being much quicker than she would normally run. How much water the track gets either from the maintenance crew or from Mother Nature and how it is handled will have an impact for sure.
Rain moving in this evening and overnight, through the morning tomorrow then drying out and very warm through Thursday. Looks like Oaks Day could be wet for sure with rain into Derby morning. Last night had rain moving out Derby morning but appears that forecast is changing with now “scattered thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon” 60% chance of rain.
