I liked this stretch.

That was a great read!
And was he retired after that? NO He ran 16 more races and won most of 'em.
I think his dimunitive size helped him. One of the poor design features of TBs is that they are VERy Fast, but also Very Big. (compared to equine species in history). That tends to expose them to being more accident prone an hence, fragile. He was fast, and small.
SOrt of like how humans are poorly designed..all this amazing stuff and do we have a hard shell? NO. Thick fur? NO. Tough Hide? NO. Just very fragile "skin" that covers us.
