Normally it would be this weekend at Santa Anita but it’s not in the condition book 😳

They revamped the stakes schedule for 3yos, giving it a linear progression of distance, and roughly equal spacing between races. Jan. 6- San Vincente 7F Feb. 3- Robert B. Lewis 8F Mar. 2- San Felipe 8.5F Apr. 6- Santa Anita Derby 9F I guess if you have a N1X horse that wants to go two turns, you have to ship out of town, walk the shedrow, or petition the racing secretary. Or maybe they they just made out a big check to Baffert in advance to save time and effort . TW

Thanks Tom . Strange then that the San Vincente does not get any Kentucky Derby points this weekend while every runner in the Jerome will get at least one point

Just got off the phone with the racing office... NO Sham Stakes this year. Too many of the same type races, too few horses... Robert B. Lewis in February becomes the first Kentucky Derby prep. That's the gist. Badactor reporting live.

Email response from Santa Anita...
We received your inquiry asking about when the Sham Stakes will be run. The racing office has taken this stakes race out of the schedule this year. There is potential for it to come back, please stay tuned.
We hope this helps!
Thank you.

What? Didn't everybody love the San Felipe "paid workout" with a $300K purse with 4 horses in it? :dripping sarcasm:
Maybe just start giving out participation trophies for the 2024 KY Derby Preps ......
Apparently Bob's plan all along "My original plan to was to just to wait. I don’t need to run him [Sunday]."
Guess the bettors didn't know of the original plan when they were putting together their picks.
