Friday
• 9.30am – Albany Stakes (Group 3) 6f 2yo fillies
Snafiya is out.
#9- Matrika (8-1) won on debut at the Curragh in ordinary fashion, but this just the kind of O'Brien horse that drifts up in the odds, and after the race you say, "how did Ryan Moore win at 18-1?" #10- Navassa Island (8-1) debuted in a GIII at Naas, just missed behind Porta Fortuna which reopposes. Territories is a promising young sire, but they spent over $300K on this filly, mostly because she's a half to 2yo GI winner Lezoo. Could jump up on second start.
EX- 9,10/1,6,9,10,13,16,18
• 10.05am – Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (No Geldings) 6f (3yo)
Cold Case is out.
#2- Little Big Bear (7-5) might be one of the shortest prices of the week, and if he stayed at 7-5 I'd be tempted to just make a big win bet. Only competition might come from #11- Lezoo (7-1) (see above) from Beckett/Dettori, which like the favorite failed the distance test in the 1000 Guineas and returns to sprinting.
EX-2,11/2,7,8,9,11,12
• 10.40am – Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) 1m 4f 3up
#3- Teumessias Fox (5-1) looks like a different animal (gelded, sorry dude) this year with two open length victories. #15- Haunted Dream (15-1) is ultra-consistent, slowly improved through his 3yo season, they protected his rating with only the one AW start this year, ready to fire best shot today.
WIN- 15 QUI- 3,15/3,5,6,15,16
• 11.20am – Coronation Stakes (Group 1) Old mile (round) 3yo fillies
Comhra is out.
Going all-in on short-priced favorites hasn't worked so far, but #7- Tahiyra (3-5) was such a convincing winner of the 1000 Guineas that she scared off many challengers.
TRI- 7/3,4,6/ALL No bets.
• 12.00pm – Sandringham Stakes (Handicap) 1m (straight) 3yo fillies
Orchid Bloom is out.
#2- Jackie Oh (6-1) couldn't handle the class jump in the Guineas but still ran pretty well, is literally a 'stakes horse in a handicap' today. #21- Chelsea Green (15-1) the Chelsea Thoroughbreds partnerships had a one-two finish in the Royal Hunt Cup, and this filly is improving while getting a lot of weight from the top ones.
EX- 2,21/2,20,21,22,26
• 12.35pm – King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2) 1 1/2mi (Colts & Geldings) (3yo)
Not much of a betting race if you think #5- King of Steel (4-5) looks best, which I do.
TRI- 5/3,4/ALL
• 1.10pm – Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes (Handicap) 5f 3yo
Tawalla is out.
27 3yos going 5F. #20- Tatterstall (8-1) is improving this season, won the 3yo dash at Epsom last time, trainer Dods is a sprint king and can get them on a roll. #28- Conquistador (8-1) took a while to come around, Boughey (wisely, or otherwise) kept him on the AW to keep his rating low, returns to turf today and must still prove that he can go just as well on it. Gets weight from everybody.
EX- 20,28/1,2,10,12,13,20,22,28
