Ditto, largemac! Hope she lives a long and contented life going forward. I am always happy to add to the TB bloodlines, with horses like Zenyatta AND Rachel Alexandra. I believe Something Royal was 18 when she foaled Secretariat. Her record as a racer? 1-0-0-0 and earned $0. (also pidgeon-toed w/offset knees). Secretariat himself didn't turn out to be a magical sire directly, as many thought he would be. There was Risen Star and Lady's Secret of course, but his influences in pedigrees are solid and storied, esp. thru his daughters as dams (like Sister Dot, who gave us Dehere), and his elite grandsons like A.P. Indy, Storm Cat, Gone West, etc. produced by Secretariat mares. If you remember Lone Sailor, I became a fan, mostly because had 4 doses of Secretariat in his bloodline. I had never seen that much Secretariat in a horse---- but I lost money on him as a racer. I bear him no grudge. He didn't win any TC races.... only won a G3 (Oklahoma Derby). I like to remember how and why I got into horse racing: a distant relative willed me a beautiful library of the best TB pedigree books. (I think nobody else wanted them?) I spent a summer reading them and was hooked. So I'm still more of an admirer of the thoroughbred breed itself and love them all. (but admit I am especially thrilled when dirt racers are still racing at age 5 and beyond.) I also remember the years of Rachel and Zenyatta and it seemed to get very "ugly" among some of the pure gambler types. Not something I want to see a lot of again.
