I know there are trainers who put the horse first….probably don’t hear about them much as they are not the ones raking in tons because they are honest and play by the rules….

Of course. And not just trainers, but tons of people who work in the racing industry in general. All the way from a backside worker lovingly braiding a horse's mane for a race, to the people in upper positions who love the sport and want it flourish. I believe the lack of transparency is mostly to blame. Unfortunately, sometimes the only way to rehab something is to rip up the carpets, open the closets, shine a light, and show the skeletons. That is what transparency is. It requires a lot of honesty and humility. When a minority of bad actors seem to have taken over the sport, and it's been allowed, it hurts everyone else......and that everyone else is, as you say, the majority. It will get sorted. Some who have been watching for 20-30 years and don't want to walk away from our sport might be growing impatient, and it's painful to read all the hit pieces and general perception of the public. But hang in there for a bit longer. Better days are ahead!! I'm quite sure of it. |
