Glancing over the possibles and probables, looks like we may have 4 Pletchers, 3 Bafferts, 2 Coxs ........
Why not just name this the Super Trainer Crown and be done with it.
I guess US Racing fans are happy to wager into races where 70% of the race is multiple horses from same trainers.....
I didn't play any TC races last year. Perhaps I will go back to that if things keep up like this.
I watched CA racing go in the direction, unfortunately

With all due respect, Merasmag, you are welcome to post your thoughts......and simply disagree with my posts.
However, instructing me in the manner in which I should express myself, i.e, posting my perceptions about US Racing and the direction it is going, isn't either of those things.
Your "please don't make this out to be more or less than it is" read as if you are telling me that I should be "more silent" about issues that I feel strongly about, and I hope you did not mean it that way?
(I've also had that said to me when I champion transparency.......while the whole world knows we had a horse who was allowed to compete and win the Triple Crown, despite a drug positive that was covered up by one of our major Ruling bodies. ).
I am someone who strongly desires for the reputation of US Racing to be restored AND that our sport and the horses who are the stars, can enjoy a healthy future.
As for Mark Casse, he has a total of 6 Rulings since 2013, and 3 of them were just paperwork notification failures.....not medication suspensions. I also didn't notice him have 4 horses in one G1 race? He is also a supporter of the Water Hay Oats Alliance, on record, of which I approve.
For me, another cavalcade of Baffert, Pletcher, Cox all jammed into one race (in a field of less than 24 horses) just isn't my idea of a "good racing product" and I stick with that opinion. According to Grening at DRF, we should expect about 8-10 horses in this race.

OK---when it comes to racing at the premier facilities and races, u r going to see a lot of Cox/Pletcher/Asmussen/Baffert(except for KY for now...)/Casse/Chad Brown with 3-4runners in turf stakes. Because they train the most expensive talented runners for the deep-pocket high profile owners...... What else would you expect?? As mentioned, in the UK and Arab nations, it is not unusual to see multiple O'Brien , Appleby, Haggas, Godolphin runners in races at the premier facilities..... These are the locations where serious $$ can be won at every level.
Maybe you should set your sights on the minor races and tracks where these entities don't run, and breakdowns don't get publicized?
US racing reputation to be restored??? Probably a long way off----like our current govt, too far gone to get back where it should be anytime soon imo. Besides, US racing would actually WANT to change before anything meaningful could happen. We get knee-jerk publicity responses and promises whenever something catastrophic happens, then quietly back to the sos.
"Good racing product"?---to me--the best talent available hopefully in the best condition to be competitive regardless of who owns or trains........We didnt see any other Derby runners in the Preakness, because they were all either spent from the Derby campaign, or were hopelessly distanced in the Derby--pretty simple(and if he hadn't won the Derby, Mage honestly wasn't in condition to win the Preakness).
u might be expecting too much from a business that is run by breeders and fueled by gambling, and where what u or I think is pretty far down the priority list

hate to interrupt this chatter about....well, whatever ya'll are talkin' about...but could somebody just give some thoughts on who they think will win the race...lol... Perhaps start a separate topic BELMONT STAKES PICKS. I admit I probably didn't name my topic appropriately, as it was just more of a vent about the field in general, and not meant to be a handicapping topic, and I could probably just go back and re-name it as a "vent" and not for picks. Perhaps an Admin can help me re-name the topic appropriately, as I can see how it may be misinterpreted as a handicapping/picks topic. So I am open to topic title edit.

thanks pg. I learn something new every day! Skill position I would think. hey Ozzie... anyone else here know how to do this job? Farriers can be trained via schooling or many learn on the job. The elite handle major issues with a variety of tricks and are veterinarians who are also certified farriers - they are known as podiatrists. The best on the track are typically Certified Farriers with tons of experience on track. Is that what you were asking??? I quickly skimmed this thread and only paused when I saw the question….

I learned a lot about farriers when Big Brown required a special farrier and shoe. At the time Fran Jurga had a hoof blog that many of us read and learned a lot about shoe-ing. We got to see photos and such of the wiring and such that was done on his foot. (I winced a few times looking at it though LOL) At the time I believe it was hoof repair impresario Ian McKinlay and Tom Curl who were doing the work on Big Brown's feet. A lot of glue and wires. He had wall separations in both front feet.
This became a big subject and many who never thought about horses' feet had not been educated about what is done and all the new technology. the only one before that who made it into the public consciousness was when farrier Steve Norman had worked on Unbridled Song's feet to prep him for the Derby back in 1996.
I think the hoofblog is still up and running.
