Hope everyone has a great derby day! Sorry I’ve been mia. Hope all is well with you all.
Derby Day
Race 1 - #7 Backside Buzz (20-1) the two favorites are both speedballs and I think run each other out of gas early, Backside Buzz has some good closing kick and has been working great.
Race 6 - #7 Three Technique (20-1) Last race was an obvious prep. Has run his best at Churchill and looks ready to do it again.
Race 8 - #13 Damon’s Mound (20-1) Ran two huge races last year, then a bad one. Came back this year on turf and ran poorly. Back to dirt here and working up a storm. Think he gets back to running like he did last year and spring a big upset.
Race 9 - #5 Johannes (15-1) & #4 Talk of the Nation (10-1) these two are by far the fastest two in the race on speed figures and are big prices thanks to some hyped up slower horses.
Race 10 - #9 Sir Alfred James (50-1) SAJ has run a few big races that could win this, but runs really often and mostly bad. Finally got a little break in races and comes in a little fresher here. Has a shot at a huge price. #6 Tejano Twist (6-1) is probably the most likely winner and won’t be the favorite.
Race 11 - #9 Spooky Channel (5-1) missed almost all of last year but has come back running as good or better than ever. Last race was a great one being far back of a really slow pace, getting a wide trip and still running them down pretty easy. Best bet of the day.
Race 1 - #17 Derma Sotogake (10-1) Japanese horse ships in for his first US start off a huge front running win in Dubai. Japan’s horses have been shipping all over the world and crushing all the big raced for the last 4-5 years. This looks like time they won a Derby too. Has speed to get position from the 17 post, but has show plenty of ability to pass horses in some of his earlier races so I don’t think they get in a speed duel like this rider did last year. #5 Tapit Trice (5-1) has enough speed to get a good position and a good finishing kick. He’s won 4 in a row with improving speed figures. #2, #9 & #14 to fill out the Tri/Super tickets.
