Solomini hasn't won this race yet but I don't think I want to bet against him. There are a couple in here that still are improving and you never know how much further they can move up. I just reviewed the Southwest Stakes again, I wanted to see just how much trouble Sporting Chance encounter about 200 yards from the wire - and he was mugged pretty good. He had just mover from the wire to the outside of My Boy Jack was only a length back when he was about to try to make a run - then he was "jostled". Mugged was a better description. No one will ever know if he could have made the wire first or not. If I wanted to try to beat Solomini, I'd take a chance on Chance. Sounds like an Abba song.

looks like a race for the 3-1-7-10.......the 8 is interesting....in the rebel....nd in the jack ruby 'i' have thus far thought the 7 with the 8-6-3-2 to be looked at mostly... the rebel appears to be a 3-2-1 race,,,lol.......the jack ruby a 7-hazit with the 8 and 11 perhaps showing up....good luck folks...'me' thinks the 9-dream points needs a race and should be a good one...had the 9 had a race more 'i' would think him to be the winner...lol

Like #4 Magnum Moon in the Rebel as a single.
Last race at Tampa was an effortless paid workout. Saez sticks with him over Sporting Chance. Think he's just more talented than these if he gets a clean trip.

Great day at Oaklawn. Went to Oaklawn at Dawn, because the featured speaker was D. Wayne Lukas. (Never gonna get to see that again.) Sun was coming up over the track, about 50+ horses working out with the red/yellow sky behind, sun coming up, it was so gorgeous. Mr. Lukas is a one man show, he told some GREAT stories and had some interesting insights. He was very accommodating afterwards with autographs and posed for every photo if you wanted to have your photo taken with him (He is always good like this, i.e. is known for grabbing a youngster out of the crowd to stand in the winner's circle when his horses win). Estimated attendance for Rebel Day was about 37,500. This was something Mr. Lukas brought up when talking about his decision to move from CA to OP years back, he said on a normal Thursday you get better attendance at Oaklawn than any other track has on a stakes day....he made a joke about you couldn't get that in CA or BEL even if you brought american pharoah. I was happy about Moon winning. I didn't bet it as i was in a stupor (having gotten to the track so early) by then. But I would have left Sporting Chance off my ticket entirely (but didn't tell Mr. lukas that) since when I saw him in the Southwest he just struck me as a toddler.....yes he is talented and has speed, but I got the feeling that in the post parade if you threw a horse toy out to him he would get distracted and start playing LOL....i just registered "immature" last time I saw him race.) He is a smooth runner though, Lukas pointed out that you could set a cup of water on his back while he was running and wouldn't spill a drop.

I could listen to Lukas talk for hours. I was searching for the Rebel replay this morning and that interview from yesterday morning with Nancy Holthus popped up. Watched all 40+ minutes and wished it were longer.
I'd give Sporting Chance one more race to show some improvement routing. He got pushed four wide by Magnum Moon going into the first turn and stayed wide into the second turn. Finished a flat 5th but the race might move him forward in the next one.
The only other horse that I think could improve some off the Rebel into the next one is Zing Zang. More distance and a faster pace could help him.
Combatant kind of flattened out late so I don't think more distance helps him. Baffert 3rd stringer Solomini was okay and maybe being inside didn't agree with him(checked, ran in spots) but he's more of a grinder type to me and doesn't have a real turn of foot.
Liked Magnum Moon going in and coming out but he could be at his ceiling for now. He drew off late but was weaving all over the place in the stretch and he'll have to pick up significant weight down the road. Interested to see how he does in the next one and if he catches some stronger competition than Solomini.

Big, I was happy Moon won. But I liked Title Ready and Zing Zang due to that nice Phipps breeding underneath. Zing Zang isn't quite right pedigree, but he is a gorgeous hunk of horse, quite tall and big, and a real looker. Kinda got a crush on him during the Southwest. That $1,500,000 they paid for Curlin colt was pretty steep, thought maybe he'd do something. I'm glad you enjoyed the interview, he was quite funny, did you like the part about the sermon on the mount? LOL and his stories about the horse in Pale Rider that he owned? I was dying laughing, when he was saying all the noise, firecrackers, practically dynamite going off on the movie set and horse wasn't bothered, and he said "when I had the horse he'd freak out if he saw a kleenex on the ground!" Lukas can entertain for hours, that is for sure.

Lukas is hilarious.
Loved all of those stories. Get him and Baffert together and it'd be comedy hour.
The Dash For Cash story was interesting. I knew he started with quarter horses but didn't know he was a hall of famer or that he trained what is considered the greatest QH of all time.
