Yoshida is a beast. He may not be a fast enough beast but he’ll get a fair bit of my Classic wagers. Loved his Woodward.

will take 20 on PAVEL so I don't have to lose my shirt on the day. became a sucker for this guy, once i got the ill conceived idea he was gonna be a great 4yo. owes nothing. paid off the foster. v light figs. if nothing else, loves the track. trainer says "look for him to be kinda hot and on his toes when he fires," which he wasn't at the pacific classic..."i'm concerned." prerace comments. shackleford 2, electric boogaloo.
will also take 20 on ARKLOW in the turf. owes nothing too. sucker for guys who don't care where they're placed and are able to go between, making it look like the foes they pass go into insta give up mode. won at the track at 3. some eurospazz will obv have better cred. weak division in the states. why not.
if all i lose is 40 on my man crushes, that's pretty ok.

Four-time Group 1 winner Roaring Lion has exited his victory in Saturday's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day in great shape, according to attheraces.com. The 3-year-old son of Kitten's Joy is expected to retire to stud for the 2018 season, but owner Sheikh Fahad has one more start in mind: Roaring Lion has been pre-entered in both the Breeders' Cup Classic and the Turf, with the Classic as his first preference.
“He's never run on the surface, but Sheikh Fahad is very keen,” said David Redvers, racing manager for Qatar Racing. “The colt appears to have come out of Saturday in tremendous shape. It's bizarre how well he seems to take his races. He was so fresh that (trainer) John Gosden had to give him a canter this morning.”

City of Light and Bravazo both confirmed for Dirt Mile today so Gunnevera gets in. Unbelievably competitive race and a case could be made for almost every runner.

What makes the Classic such a fascinating race to handicap is the fact that many of the runners have questions to consider along with their wonderful credentials. As I look through the pp's, my reaction is often, "he's a really nice horse, but what about.....?"
For example, Accelerate is a deserving favorite, but his trainer is something like 0 for 41 in BC races (but, he could have just broken the schneid in the Dirt Mile with Catalina Cruiser); Mind Your Biscuits is as honest as the day is long, runs every time out, but are the connections being too ambitious running him at 1 1/4 miles; Roaring Lion is one of the best horses on the planet, but he has earned that reputation as a turf horse and has never run on dirt; McKinzie has not raced beyond 1 1/8 miles and has never faced older horses. The list can go on. None of those factors make the horse a throwout - any of them could win on their proven talent. The analysis, both pro and con, is going to be challenging.

I think that West Coast needed the last race and is sitting on a big effort. Will get a good trip, though front end could be a bit testy. Then again, I haven't picked a decent winner since I had hair on my head....

Big Money Mike has decided to ride McKinzie rather than West Coast which strikes me as rather telling.

Agree Bev and think Baffert is extremely confident in McKenzie. Remember he thought his was his best 3YO before the injury. This 3YO with Yoshida and Thunder Snow most likely for me here but still a week out and lots can change. All I know is I will be completely against Accelerate in this spot.

Waiting for entries/PP draw later today. In the money in a graded stake at 10F in 2018: Accelerate, Catholic Boy, Discreet Lover, Mendelssohn, Pavel, Thunder Snow, West Coast. Most likely winners: Accelerate (P), Thunder Snow (P), West Coast (E).
Other win candidates: Catholic Boy (P). Can use underneath: Discreet Lover (S), Mind Your Biscuits (P).
Running Style: (E)= Early speed; (P)= Pace tracker; (S)= Sustained late run.

Read an article on Smith's choices. He said he picked McKinzie because he will have the mount next year and might lose it if he gave him up here, whereas this is West Coast's last race (Pegasus?). Don't know if that's true, but that's what he said. He went the opposite way in the Distaff with the older Abel Tasman over Midnight Bisou (maybe because he thinks Bisou will never beat Monomoy Girl?).
Hunch exacta box in the Classic: Catholic Boy/West Coast. Will likely throw Yoshida in there, but I can't think of a connection....
