We really need some cogent back-and-forth on this race. One that I am clueless about. Just came across my desk: B umblebees solve puzzles by watching other bumblebees according to a new study by Queen Mary University of London Handicapping sure does feel like this sometimes:

The beautifully bred Wadsworth is definitely a Horse For The Course. Unfortunately, this Godolphin runner is a gelding, so... no thank you.

IMHO, the only 2 horses I have winning this are:
Two Phils or Point Proven
Just have to decide which one to use in my contest picks. Probably one that my teammates aren't using
In real life I may do an exotic box w/ Point Proven, Makers Candy, Two Phils, Scoobie Quando, Funtastic Again.
I have no idea what they plan to do with Congruent, he is terribly over-raced......9 races w/out a layoff....and this will be his 10th. And he would probably have to run one sometime in April before the Derby? Madness.

Definitely sweet on Scoobie Quando as a betting option, but may go with 2 Phil's in the contest

But as a miler. As he matures more. Nice lasix free horsie. I only chose Point Proven because I thought JV would try like heck to out-ride Irad, since JV was usually Pletcher's first choice rider.....thought JV would prevail, but it was not to be, esp. with that #12 draw. But interestingly, there's been about 3 horses in recent times of this race rendition who have won from post #12, so it was worth a shot on a longshot I thought. .

It's almost as if US racing won't *allow* the small barns to win races with top horses in their charge. (Rachel Alexandra, Hal Wiggins; Helen Pitts, Curlin; Go Knicks Go, Ben Coleman, etc.) They were doing just fine with their horses before the horse was yanked away from them and given to {yawn} a super-trainer who will have 2 others in any race. So Ditto, I feel the same way about jockeys.....if jock is a good match for a horse, keep them aboard. We don't know the symbioisis of jockey/horse and sometimes it's a glove/hand perfect match. Once in a while an ownership/trainer honors the jockey who rode the horse in their every successful race and I always admire them more. There are some fantastic lesser known "gate jockeys" I keep on my longshot list for Oaklawn, for instance, and when certain trainers match up with those I know I'm gonna have the winner. And, anyone who has looked at the photo of Sonny Leon guiding the reins to move Rich Strike out from Messier in last year's KY Derby ..... and Rich Strike did exactly as he asked, every time........I would be hard pressed to say that wasn't a jockey who is talented on a horse he just "goes with"......(if anyone needs to see the photos I can post them)........ ........but you also need a very tractable, push-button horse. One who like Mine That Bird, has a rare partnership/union with his rider, and takes his instructions to a T. It's all about the *fit*........horse/jockey. Not just fit, but TRUST. When you want to thread the needle you need a horse who trusts you. (I learned this training dogs, if you don't establish yourself as the leader who can be trusted, you can have the fire-breather retriever but you don't win the field trial). We don't know these things but the horse does I think! When a rider and horse just go together like peanut butter and jelly! TL;DR: I don't believe you can just "isolate" jockeys and say they're going to win because they are a certain "name brand". It's all about their relationship with the horse.

i don't disagree with anything you said, but...both trainer and jock (and owner) are VERY well known on the Illinois circuit---one day i may look at their percentage together, but loveberry's career WPS% (12,800 races since 2005) is 39%. have a great day!

disagree that rivelli should stick w loveberry. desperately needs a rider upgrade. castellano is out of favor w the top barns nowadays and the man has given winning rides in a lot of derbies but never had the right horse to get there. call his agent.

I actually don't think it will matter that much. When I said Funtastic will go forward I meant as an 8.5F horse, more of a miler type to my eye. I think he has a bright future in that direction.
He is no match for the winner of the Jeff Ruby, Two Phil's. That said, I also won't have Two Phils to win on my Derby ticket, either though.
