Three weeks until opening day of the British Flat Racing season, at Doncaster on April 1st, featuring the Lincoln Handicap (1m), Cammidge Trophy (6F, Listed), Doncaster Mile (1m, Listed), and the Brocklesby Stakes for 2yo. Wolverhampton has a group of three races (6F, 7F, 1 1/16m) on the AW today that can be used as preps for those races.
WOL R2 (8:30am ET)- 6f (6f20y) Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-105)

#3- Exalted Angel (4-1) is a consistent AW runner which has been keeping better company than most of these. Ran an off-race last out first-time blinkers (removed today) against Listed foes going 5F, which may have been too sharp for him, especially at Lingfield which can favor inside speed. Burke/Lee works for me. #10- Ingra Tor (12-1) is the lightweight for Jack Channon, who now holds the license after the recent retirement of his dad Mick. Looked like he could be any kind last spring, beating fellow 3yo sprinter Harry Three (Listed-winner) by open lengths first time in a handicap. Lost his form thereafter, went to the shelf and was gelded in the interim. Drew inside in PP3, and trainer reaches out for Andrea Atzeni, which is notable. Off this low mark he could be a steal if he retains his previous ability.
EX- 3,10/1,2,3,10 Result: 6,8,5 Dubai Station ($19.40) came flying home late, with all the fancied horses falling away in the stretch. Pace didn't look that hot, hard result to figure.
WOL R3 (9:05am ET)- 1m½f (1m142y) Lincoln Trial Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-105)

#4- Alrehb (8-1) 6yo gelded son of War Front is a terror on the AW (8/4-3-0), as the Danzig-sire line is better than most on synthetics. Won a mile race at Southwell back in January on seasonal debut, he handles turf but may be more all-in for the win today than others. #11- Outbreak (7-1) races for Johnston/Atzeni off a convincing win over Notre Belle Bete, which won this event last year when favorably weighted, and re-opposes today. Lightly-raced son of Dark Angel may have much more to offer this year. Best Bet.
WIN- 11 EX- 4,11/4,6,7,8,10,11 Result: 4,7,5 Exacta: $42.80 Both Alrehb ($9.60) and especially Outbreak were hampered at the start, but they sat out back and flew home with Alrehb collaring the Godolphin runner Unforgotten inside the final furlong. Outbreak was never nearer than at the finish, will definitely be a bet back for me after making up at least ten lengths during the running.
WOL R4 (9:40am ET)- 7f (7f36y) Lady Wulfruna Stakes (Listed Race) (All-Weather Championships Fast-Track Qualifier) (Class 1) (4yo+)

#3- Dhabab (7-2) was a high-class, GII-placed 2yo. Missed most of his 3yo season, had two good AW starts last fall. Draws the inside PP1 under Rab Havlin, will have to improve a bit to turn the tables on Tinker Toy, which won this race in 2022. #6- Tinker Toy (5-1) 6yo gelded son of War Front had three good AW races this season, now steps back up to 7F which appears to be his best distance. Tough to repeat in any race, but Roger Varian is great at pointing to a particular spot. #1- Angel Bleu (5-2) is the class of the field but has never tried AW, been off since July, doesn't need to win this with much more lucrative races ahead on the grass.
EX- 3,6/1,3,5,6,7,8 Result: 2,1,4 FTG Berkshire Shadow ($6.20) sat a nice stalking trip under Oisin Murphy and powered home ahead of Angel Bleu, which sat out the back and also closed stoutly without threatening for the win. My two were paired up at the head of affairs and faded, the lead was not where you wanted to be today.
