Back in the old days... we would go to Los Alamitos to watch Harness Racing. I remember the colorful ostrich feathers attached to the horses headgear.
Just a little kid... and I have loved horses from then to now! Forever.

I grew up on harness racing. My father was sent season passes to Roosevelt raceway at his business.(as well as Belmont park) They would eventually end up in my hands. Had a friend who was a money runner there,(Roosevelt) his father the maitre d’ of the clubhouse restaurant. First $100 wager was on harness racing. Got to see Albatross and Fresh Yankee run. Drivers were dominated by the Filion brothers back then, every night the place was packed. Later after college, headed to Stanton Ca. Remember when Roger Stein was the top harness trainer there(before converting to thoroughbreds). Trained for Micheal Landon (Bonanza fame). Back in the day harness did very well along with thoroughbreds……I’ve not wagered on harness for decades now. (Like most back then…it became less appealing) Before Autotote…each ticket had it’s own color. $5 minimum exactas..none of the exotics of today. Bygone era. Things change

Northville Downs and Jackson Harness Raceway in Michigan and Scioto Downs in Columbus, OH. It's been a long, long tome though.

Growing up in the Saratoga area...Saratoga Race Track was our August special special place to be.....but Saratoga Harness track was our weekly fun! Finish line fanatic...rain sun or cold!
I actually owned a pacer in 80's with Vegas Mike MVerrone--uic member. We had fun...saw things we never knew about what REALLY GOES ON!...made some money sometimes.....lost more than we won......but had a fun time doing it all! I think if I remember our horse won 5 times....a cheap claimer from Canada. He raced at Monticello and Vernon Downs but mostly Saratoga. Fun times....good friendships made!

Saratoga Harness, Green Mountain Park, Hinsdale Raceway (NH), Foxboro and a couple of fairs. Long time ago. My uncle had a couple of decent claimers at Saratoga.

It was easier to follow harness than throughbred when I was younger. Racing from Yonkers/Roosevelt was on tv twice a week and NYRA was just on once. WCBS radio had stretch calls and results every 30 minutes. Loved Yonkers, Roosevelt and Monticello back in the day. The Big M changed where the money went, even though it was a tougher handicap. I still enjoy harness racing.

I've only been to the races a few times but Ocean Downs for simulcasts when visiting a friend. Actually had my best day with thoroughbreds there. The longest drive home with the most cash ever. I was at Rosecroft a few times, but never had much luck. I started listening to a group that seemed to be doing well and that was the only time I won betting sulky drivers that weighed more than me.

Played?!? I’m a grandparent to one of the damn things. This is Don’t Rock the Boat. His barn name is George and Katie is a half owner with her boyfriend. He makes his return to the races at Century Mile in the 10th race on Thursday night. She still has her 2 OTTB’s that she rides as well. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

I doubt if Century Mile harness is available on TVG. Their handle is pretty tiny.
The weather forecast for Edmonton for Friday is a high of -20C (-4 F) and a low of -27C (-16 F). Not sure at what threshold they cancel but if there is any wind I suspect -27 would do it.

Century Mile is available in NJ on our version of TVG, so it should be elsewhere. Largemac...Century Mile is a strange looking track for harness. The pylons being out from the rail make it more than a mile from pole to pole. I'm about 2 seconds off when I clock a race, so they must technically start a race somewhere after the wire and rig something with the clock so they're only timing a mile.

I know what you mean about the rail and the pylons propro. I guess that the thoroughbred rail does come off but there isn't any track inside it so it wouldn't create a safety lane if they did remove it. They must tweak where the start pole is to adjust for the extra circumference on the turns. The times are certainly fast enough so I don't think they are travelling any extra distance. I will check with smallmac to see if he knows. He stays in touch with those guys.
