The Mrs and I are looking to move out of California because we rent and the real estate market here has us priced out from ownership. We're probably gonna move someplace in the south cuz harsh winters are intolerable to me. A friend asked if I wanted to attend the Breeders Cup at Keeneland and I seized the opportunity to bundle a home search in Louisville with horse racing in Lexington. We worked with a buyer's agent and toured homes all week, mainly in old Louisville, 3rd street area. Found one of interest in The Original Highlands neighborhood when about to give up after the breeders cup, just yesterday. We also took what was supposed to be just a day, but it turned into a two day trip cuz of flight delays down to New Iberia Louisiana to look at an absolute gem of house. The stolen day robbed the designated handicapping evening and also the Cincinnati house appointments morning from plans. Thursday. Not my fault about the handicapping. Was supposed to be one day. Didn't bring paper materials or laptop alike. Expected to have the hours on return. What are you gonna do.
Let's get this over. Nobody cares. Took an 0fer Friday. Took a 3fer Saturday and got out. With a little friendly variance it becomes a lifetime best session. As it fell it was a w and I like those. The opinions ran well, the hunches didn't.
Friday went to Lexington for Day one of the cup and marveled at the bucolic scenery of the farms while en route. Purposely gave myself an extra hour to wander about small state highways. It's the perfect landscape for breeding horses. It makes a fellow wonder if it's too late to find religion, cuz everything looks and feels too good to be true. Keeneland's main car park sold out so I eventually stowed at the horse park and shuttled into the grounds. Shuttle: It's so comforting to speak with strangers who all love the game this much. You begin to get used to it by the end of the two days, cuz Keeneland is the same. I wonder if it's unique to the Lexington area. The friend who flew in with my tickets was hours late and I was stranded outside the grounds until uic poster and bcbc beast elk rescued me with an entry laminate that read, "VIP Horseplayer" hahahaha. Missed a couple races, but no cup heats. It's always great to see elk. Met his wife who is tremendous. Keeneland is a very good venue. I like racetracks best where real life disappears. Keeneland almost does that. The airport and a highway are still in view, however. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Lost my device and they recovered it for me. The tellers are fast, but I did have to correct one ticket from the 20 ish played over the two days. 95% correct is average for live tellers. Paddock area is special and the balconies overlooking it were the viewpoint of pre race preference. The janky: The food and drink options weren't good enough and on one cash out had to wait a few minutes for the bills to arrive.
Flightline: It was an honor and privilege to be there. The entire venue seemed to have an emotional investment in his effort. In the immediate aftermath the word elk used describes the collective emotion. Satisfaction. The shuttle back to the horse park was lively with debate about next years campaign.
