Quote from Jack Klugman "the greatest thrill of his career"
He appeared in the live television broadcast of Producers' Showcase in the episode "The Petrified Forest" with Humphrey Bogart and Henry Fonda. Klugman later said the experience was the greatest thrill of his career.
First ever appearance of Humphrey Bogart on TV.

eye- Thanks for posting this, I am looking forward to watching it when I get the time. I have a dvd of the film and have seen it many times but I have never seen this version. The only thing better would be to go back in time and see the original stage play version.

Yes..we don't see this kind of acting on tv these days. This version was riveting. Bogart,Fonda,Bacall,Klugman,Warden,Jaekal.....all at the top of their game. Ran across this....and glad I did. Worth the "share".

Quite a distinction between the interpretations of Leslie Howard and Henry Fonda.
I got to see Ibetponies play the role when we were in college years ago... kings of the theater arts department!

In his autobiography, Lawrence Olivier, recounts a conversation with Humphrey Bogart regarding the art of acting. Olivier explained the difference between American actors and English actors by telling Bogart that he was more of a "behaviorist" than an actor.
English actors are immediately up on their feet, phisically finding the part, while American actors, according to Mr. Olivier, love to sit and discuss the inner life and motivations of the character.
The difference in acting styles is evident in the performances of Howard and Fonda.📽 🎬

I've never acted in my life,(have no idea of styles and method)... say maybe for one time. I got hired for a new job and all the new hires had to attend a five day orientation. One of those days included breaking us up into groups of about half a dozen each. The instructor walked by each group giving us different scenarios of problems that might arise. Among us(the group) we were to pick two people..one taking each side of the argument. (and play it out before everyone...no script all improvisation) I was chosen to be one of the two. (more like volunteered after everyone else but one hem and hawed) Well, she and I went at it...back and forth...all off the top of our heads...each seemingly out doing the other...it was really amazing the stuff we were coming up with....well after about 10 minutes we ended. We got an applause from the entire group..and the instructor. Just a small glimpse of what actors must feel when things go right.

Standing Ovation!!!
Man, that is great stuff... love Christopher Plummer. Saw him on Broadway with Glenda Jackson in the Scottish play. It was an extraordinary experience for this young actor. Must have been in the late '80s early 90s.
Also enjoyed his performance in Hanover Street, with Harrison Ford. Totally corny romantic movie.. gorgeous female lead. And I loved the score. He was great as a Klingon in one of the Star Trek movies.
This is the first time I've ever seen that clip of Christopher Plummer in the role of James Tyrone from Long Day's Journey into Night.. truly great!
