Nothing much happening on track but this is my home for the next 2 days! (Edit...finally got to my home computer so I could post the photos directly.) Horses begin arriving on November 1st. The wife and I had fun relaxing...her at the spa and me at the tables!

Awesome Tim! I've always wanted to visit Hot Springs, as it is sort of a 'sister-city' to Saratoga Springs as far as a gambling resort and spa. The hotel just 'speaks' to me...the architectural design is great, and the amenities look fantastic. I would do well there. Now if the Cellas would just build a turf course...

Report....
Yes that was a spectacular view of the track, Dell. Our room was on the sixth floor. I didn't make it to Oaklawn this past season but was glad to finally get away and enjoy the hotel and casino.
Tom, I also have a longing to make it to Saratoga as I feel it most closely embodies the character and history of Oaklawn. As for the turf course... it would take quite a bit of earthmoving and they would have to move the big generator you see near the turn in the first pic. It ran for a while when Hot Springs' power acted hinky on Wednesday.
We had fun and got to enjoy some fine dining establishments in the city.

Now if the Cellas would just build a turf course... TW Heck the state of AR won't even let them build an overhead crosswalk/walkway from one side of Central to the other side in front of the track. That area in front of Oaklawn desperately needs skywalks ----Vehicles are supposed to stop in the crosswalks and there have been a few accidents. Tourists who aren't used to having to stop at crosswalks (they are also distributed all thru downtown) even tho there are flashing lights on both sides of the crosswalk to alert cars......often just careen thru them. I am a faithful walker, I do all the well known trails and promenade in town on my route, and have almost been killed a few times myself. One of the well known hot springs homeless people for decades, (Coopa Jack), got run over in there by the track, hit and run, about 3 months ago. This city was planned eons ago, there really isn't any room to place a turf course. they've already bought properties across street to make parking lots, and extended the parking lots on the Oaklawn side, as well as englarging the casino, building a hotel and more barns. No idea where a turf course could possibly go. Can't wait to start watching the early morning workouts though. If anybody wants to go to some good eating places, I can tell you some of my favs.......also the Quapaw Baths and Spa on bathhouse row --- very reasonable, and has 4 pools and even though not onsite at OP is the place I go to soak in the mineral waters.....all the pools have jets, one has a waterfall...... bring a book, there are lounge chairs, pools are 4 different temperatures. Head up to the waters hotel for drinks if you can get thru the traffic downtown. will post photos, I go there for lunch quite often during covid, and for coffee too. Its up on the roof, you can see out across the city there. How to insert a link from my computer here, not an https site or do I need to upload to a hosting site first? Wanted to show some photos

Please post your favorite eating places. We take an annual pilgrimage and would certainly entertain something different if not on our list already. Use to always be Rebel weekend we go for sisters bday on the 18th - but now racing calendar has changed. Always loved staying at the old Majestic - you never knew what your room would look like - seemed like no two were the same.

I could just imagine a turf course in the sky that lowers down to 20 or 30 feet over the main track!
