UK- Newmarket
GOING: GOOD (GoingStick: Overall 7.1; Stands' side 7.1, Centre 7.1, Far side 7.2) (Watered) (Rail movements: 3.40 +12yds) (Partly cloudy)
Newmarket's feature is the 2 1/4 mile Cesarewitch Handicap, which has 22 runners. The Autumn Stakes (GIII) or the Dewhurst Stakes (GI) could produce one or two for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.
Race 1- 1m2f (Row) Zetland Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-10-08/820677
2yo going 10F in October. Stateside they'd lock you up or call you crazy. #4- Dear My Friend (8-1) was able to win a 6F race on debut, punished a Novice field by five, then ran fifth behind three top 2yos in a GII. His third behind Blue Rose Cen which won a GI next time in France, and Victoria Road which took a GIII, point him out. #5- Flying Honours (9-5) is a Godolphin/Appleby/Buick colt by Sea The Stars , won a Listed mile at Salisbury, then was beaten at short odds last time in a tactically run race here going a mile. Stretchout should offer more improvement.

Race 2- 1m (Row) Autumn Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-10-08/820678
#3- Epictetus (9-5) made a winning debut here going 7F in July in a powerful effort, then was put away until today. Frankie rides for Strawbridge/Gosdens. #5- Holloway Boy (6-1) has been progressive and impressive in his three starts, winning the Chesham S. at Royal Ascot on debut, then running two second-place finishes behind Marbaan and Nostrum, both of whom run in the GI Dewhurst Stakes in Race 3.
EX- 3,5/1,2,3,5
Race 3- 7f (Row) Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-10-08/817913
Stellar field of seven which all carry fine resumes. #2- Chaldean (9-2) 2yo Frankel colt for Juddmonte/Balding/Dettori found 6F too short on debut, then has run off three consecutive victories including a GII win at Doncaster last time. #6- Nostrum (3-2) is two-for-two and has looked the part of future star for Juddmonte/Stoute. Kingscote picks up the mount (imagine that!) because Ryan Moore is committed to the Aidan O'Brien runner, who could certainly win this but will likely never be more than a 7F/miler. Hoping that the odds on Chaldean stay above 3-1.

Race 4- 2m2f (Row) Cesarewitch Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-10-08/817914
Always wonder what Willie Mullins will bring over from Ireland for this, just hoping he has a weaker hand than usual this year. #3- Going Gone (15-1) carries a 4lb penalty for winning his last, I'm sure trainer Boyle wishes he lost the head bob there. Still, 4yo comes into this in fine form, was a close fourth to Coltrane going 20F at Royal Ascot. #21- Call My Bluff (15-1) was third in the Trial over C&D last month, is well in on the weights and gets Arc hero Luke Morris in the saddle. #9- Prince Imperial (20-1) is an each-way (W/P) bet, second in the Cesarewitch Trial and notably sees Richard Hughes reach out to Jim Crowley for the mount.

Race 5- 7f (Row) Nursery Handicap (Class 2) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-10-08/820680
#1- Desert Order (2-1) has improved steadily in his three starts for Godolphin/Appleby/Buick, 2-1 may look like a gift for this Dubawi colt after the race but doubt the m/l holds.
EX- 1/5,6,7
Race 6- 6f (Row) British EBF Boadicea Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo+ f&m)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-10-08/820679
Fifteen f&m sprinters going 6F. I love Gale Force Maya, made lots of money with her the last two years, but have to look past the highweight after her poor race over soft ground in an ill-advised start at Ascot last week. Casting a wide net hoping to catch some nice fish. #7- Primo Bacio (6-1) is 4/0-0-0 at Newmarket but hasn't run badly here, looks to be rounding into her best form and was second behind Gale Force Maya going 6F at York. Look for her late. #10- Azure Blue (10-1) is my best bet, 3yo has been improving all year, has won here the last twice, trainer Dods can use Maya as a pace-setter and still get the win if they blast off too fast early. Don't ignore #15- Pink Crystal (7-1) from the Haggas yard, she's done little wrong in five starts as a 3yo and is progressing to end the year on a bang. Bet her to W/P too at 7-1 or better.

www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2022-10-08/820676
#8- Royal Fleet (9-2) is 8/5-2-0 on turf, I owe Dubawi colt for helping me finish third in the Godolphin Meydan contest this past winter. Would be a nice win for the race sponsor too. #9- Alflaila (4-1) is Shadwell from Owen Burrows, he's won two stakes in a row, 3yo son of Dark Angel can be a force in the mile division next year.

Race 2- 6f Rockingham Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (2yo)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2022-10-08/820689
No brilliant insights here, use the two progressive 2yos from Haggas and Varian.

Race 3- 1m2½f (1m2f56y) Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-110)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2022-10-08/820690
This seems pretty wide-open, I'll use Godolphin/bin Suroor #2- Marching Army (5-2) looking for third win in a row going 10F on good ground.
EX- 2/1,4,6
Race 4- 6f Sprint Trophy Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105)
www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2022-10-08/820688
Easy to get this one wrong. #1- Mr. Wagyu (10-1) is the highweight but deservedly so, hasn't run a bad one since May, handles the quirky York track and should be even more prominent today with blinkers added. #11- Lucky Man (10-1) I've been chasing this guy at good prices all season, he's improving over his last few and likes it here at York, should develop into a top 6F handicapper next year.
