A statement issued on social media by the Aga Khan Studs read: “Following last Friday’s incident at Saint-Cloud, which resulted in the fall of Rossa Ryan, the Aga Khan Studs have taken the decision to cease their retainer with Christophe Soumillon with immediate effect.
“From this week onwards, Soumillon may still ride in the Aga Khan silks on occasion at the discretion of the French trainers and the Aga Khan Studs team.
“At this stage, there is no intention to retain a jockey in France for the foreseeable future.

Teeth! Thanks for posting this update. Seems like this would affect Somillion's ridership opportunities, at least in France and/or by French trainers? I wonder how many others will follow suit? Dirty riding is never acceptable. Along those lines, HISA seems to take the over-whipping stuff pretty seriously? In some cases, (at least I suspect) that owners will tell jockeys "do what you have to do to win the race, I will pay any fines you incur"? I do imagine this happens. Esp. if the fines don't sting enough.....or the suspensions have no teeth and don't adversely affect a rider's ability to earn. But at the very least, this certainly needs to happen with "dirty riding". I don't excuse Sonny Leon's behavior at all, either. I just didn't really know about it till after all the bru-ha-ha came out and before I made my post in the other topic about that race.

In case anybody misses Soumillon, he'll be here, riding Order of Australia for O'brien in the Coolmore Turf Mile (Sat, Oct 8, KEEN). (Euros used to send their bleeders, but since this is a stakes and no lasix, maybe they're sending their bad boy brawler jockeys instead. )
