HAY R2 (8:45am EDT)- 1m (1m37y) Superior Mile Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)
Scratches have decimated the field, but #8- Triple Time (5-2) looks the best of what's left. Progressive 3yo son of Frankel developed smoothly as a 2yo with two wins here last season, needs to fire fresh but he had all the potential in the world last fall.
EX- 8/3,7 Result: 8,7,3 Exacta $9.80 Triple Time ($4.20) was a step slow away from the gate, was very rank under a tight hold by Andrea Atzeni, continued to race keenly until they turned in, then unleashed a powerful run when he was given his head and saw daylight, winning comfortably over two quality rivals. This is a horse to follow.
HAY R5 (10:30am EDT)- 6f (Inner) Sprint Cup Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+)
14 runners including last year's winner #3- Emaraaty Ana (6-1). #8- Naval Crown (9-2) generally goes right to the front to lead them along, may have company today, but his two 6F 'good' races this year point him out. #7- Minzaal (7-2) hasn't run a bad one in ten starts, finished ahead of Naval Crown in France last out. Owen Burrows will have him ready to roll from off the pace. I like #12- Flaming Rib (20-1) the best of the 3yos entered here. Hoping that Ben Curtis got to know him last time and can be more judicious in doling out his speed this time. Great race!

Lot of scratches, very quick ground today. Liked Kinross but scratched.

Two 14F handicaps, one for 3yo and another for 3up.
HAY R3 (9:20am EDT)- 1m6f (1m6f1y) Handicap (Class 2) (3yo)
#1- Thundering (10-1) might be overlooked in here, very consistent, so far lacks the killer instinct but is improving and can put it all together today. #5- Inverness (7-1) was a close fourth in the Melrose H. at York going this distance, has slowly improved all season as well. Spreading underneath looking for a score.
EX- 1,5/1,2,4,5,9,13,15 Result: 5,2,15 Exacta $62.40 Inverness ($14.40) moved forward again off his good Melrose effort, was tough as nails in deep stretch holding off all challengers, including Frankie Dettori on Jessica Harrington's well-meant shipper Irish Lullaby. Can't remember that trainer/jockey combo lately.
HAY R4 (9:55am EDT)- 1m6f (1m6f1y) Old Borough Cup Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105)
#9- Contact (6-1) is an improving 4yo, has yet to win at the distance but has gone close, price should be solid. #12- Haliphon (20-1) draws the one-hole, fired three big efforts this summer before catching soft ground last time. Distance looks right and he's dispatched both Alfred Boucher and Soapy Stevens this term.
