GL prepping for the Saratoga Challenge Cup.

I sat out the derby and preakness (did not wager, just paper thoughts). I was hoping to play the Belmont but if only 9 horses show up I'm not interested.

(Esp. after seeing the strange way the final odds turned out in the Preakness.)  

I'm still trying to recuperate from Rosario's ride in the Preakness.  Looked like something a novice bug rider would do, at Pimlico for the very first time, after being told "pimlico horses win at the rail" --- so he took his horse out of the race in his obsession to get to the rail.  Never seen anything like it.

Who wins the Belmont?

1) What does anyone think about the change in longtime rider, change of equipment (no blinks which he has pretty much always worn), combined with change of venue/surface/bias for Barber Road? Seems like a lot of changes.

He may also be one of those who was unable to showcase his true talents a shorter distances.

2) Also, any thoughts on how the 2nd generation tapits will do? All the previous winners were first gens.

Pimlico's rail used to be golden especially after it dried out from rain. They resurfaced it and that faded big time!

I made it virtually every day until the 5th race a couple of springs. That was my day job, night started at 4:00. I could have stayed until the 6th but then school buses became an issue. They were an issue if there were objections in the early races too! I had one very good spring, checks uncashed and a wad of money in both front pockets. No time for the bank. A coworker asked if I had change for a $5 and I pulled out a wad of bills looking for singles. He went to the track that Saturday with me.

Maybe its just me but i swear, Andy Serling cannot handicap his way out of a paper bag. i tune in the Americas day at the races and he is typically very outspoken and smug but i cannot recall him actually picking a winner.....

Something I like about members here....they are as good handicapping "humans" as well as horses.


I did 2 writeups on horses I liked for the Preakness and Belmont back in Feb/March. (sort of like I did here for Un Ojo). I can repeat those but my reviews are usually TL;DR so I try to spare readers. LOL I liked Creative Minister because I saw his workout before he ever raced at all, back in Feb 2022 with Rattle N' Roll, who was already a G1 winner. I thought CM was better and he has since shown he "belongs". Not sure I would put in the win spot though. 

Other horse I wrote about was Golden Glider, a longshot play. A pedigree play, admittedly, but just basing Belmont Stakes ITM horses on track performance hasn't exactly been a winning formula either, since nobody can really know about any young horse going 12F. Pedigree play Nest is also good.

I will probably find 1 more besides those 3 before Sat morning for a simple exotic.  Any suggestions?   LOL   

Also keep in mind, the Tapits in this year's rendition are 2nd generation. They are not directly sired by Tapit like the past 4 winners were, nor others who did well like Lani, Frosted, etc. How you think that affects them is up to you. 

We The People won't be in my exacta but probably not my trifecta either.

Actually I enjoyed it very much yesterday. Obviously a much smaller crowd than normal but it made getting around a lot easier . What the fields lacked in quantity they certainly made up in quality . Performances by Flightline and Jack Christopher among the best I’ve ever seen in person .
