Not a track I play, but I'm gonna stick with a single w/p/s ticket on a horse I've liked for a long time, Classic Moment.
I love his female side, and having Leslie's Lady and Classic Empire up close surely can't hurt. His dam Victory Party is also 1/2 sister to Beholder, 1/2 sister to Into Mischief, and 1/2 sister to one of my favs of all Mendelssohn.
Being a 23-b doesn't hurt either.
Whether or not he expresses his rather fantastic female side in this race, and has the lungs for it, I do not know. But he's a horse I'm willing to take a chance on because of all the classicity on his female side.
Will throw in a few other horses if I play an exotic but he will be in every position, but most likely this is a "non betting race" for me overall.

I like the way you like your horse, mysaladdays... good luck!
Nothing I can do,
he's only 5/2.
Here's what I like...
#8 Straight Up G (CA+) TB, B, C, foaled May 7, 2019 ~ *late foal is a knock -. ( Straight Fire - Gidget Girl, by Sky Mesa+.) ...and I'm a fan of trainer, Richard Baltas+.
Richard Baltas
Ricardo Gonzalez
(19) 4w 1p 0s
Richard.
Ricardo.
Richard Ricardo...
Do you get it?
The other Cal-Bred #3 Fowler Blue (20-1)
should probably be entered to run on the turf. Unusual Heat in New Mexico? Sometimes, yeah. Long Shot = Covered California Exacta Box 8/3.

I'm pretty choked up about Classic Moment being vanned off. IF anyone hears anything at all, please post here

Thank you. I usually will make a case for a horse I like and tell why. In this case, admittedly, it was based on impeccable breeding and not track performance, but sometimes in a longer distance race that classicity will jump up. I usually won't use single category factor to pick a horse, but I've been following the Classic Empire progeny all year now, thought back in 2021 that it would be their year but not so much so far.
But I like when people tell why they choose horses, that is the way I learned to handicap when I first started out many eons ago. But I still think it helps people see stuff they may not have considered.

I literally combed twitter for any mention at all about what happened to Classic Moment after he was vanned off. 24 hours later and not one mention.
I feel no shame in posting this, none at all. If we want racing to be accountable, then we need to be interested in the "stars of racing", which is of course, the horses themselves.
This is a request for all race horses who are injured to be accounted for in a timely manner...for the horses, the sport and for the fans who love the horses.
"any news on Sunland Derby contestant Classic Moment? 24 hours after the race and it's not even mentioned what happened to one of the stars of our sport (an actual horse!) after he was vanned off."
If you ever liked a horse, even a little bit, follow-up by racing fans is necessary and we need ask about it. (Unfortunately sometimes the PTB need to be "shamed into transparency" and they won't do it if people aren't asking.)
Please join me in asking. Because this is as it should be.
And, AFAIC, excuses and justifications that involve "hiding" from anti-horse racing and PETA etc. is not an acceptable reason for not being transparent. Its precisely how racing gets a bad name, by not being and appearing transparent.
Not to mention, any horse, any horse at all, who has carried a human on their back for our entertainment, deserves that respect.

It's now Wed. Still no word in the racing press or anywhere else for that matter, on the outcome of Classic Moment.
What the he** kind of sport is this where the major participants of a KY Derby prep are not even an afterthought? Where a horse's fans aren't even an afterthought?
Not even a peep from Barry Irwin who was crowing with photos of this one as a foal, with photos and all, seemed so "taken" with this breeding when the little foal popped out.
Also of note, Bye Bye Bobby, Chrome King, and Straight Up Bobby weren't even nominated to the Triple Crown, Kentucky Derby, Preakness, or Belmont Stakes.
Yeah, when I wager on a horse, I follow them, I champion them, I don't just take my money and run. Then there are others, like Silent Power, possibly the most mis-managed horse I've seen in a while, I place in my virtual stable to "keep an eye on their well-being." Otherwsie, I would not be a person who loves horses, I'd just be a "gambler" which is fine, but I'm not that, which is why I speak out about things.

Salad,Mr Irwin sold Classic Moment as a weanling in 2019. Classic Moment was resold as a yearling to Winchell,Levinson and Nelson in 2020. Not sure of the why of your comment.

Salad,Mr Irwin sold Classic Moment as a weanling in 2019. Classic Moment was resold as a yearling to Winchell,Levinson and Nelson in 2020. Not sure of the why of your comment. I know that. Sometimes though, people who have a closeness or care about a horse they bred or had some connection with will say something like they are sad about it being injured, etc. When the horse accomplishes something good, it seems nobody has any problem "talking about it", even if they are presently removed from a direct connection with a horse. But the opposite is true if anything bad happens to the horse. I hope that explains the nature of my comment. IMHO every horse, esp. those who run in our much-hyped and famous "Ky Derby prep races" surely deserve some kind of send-off, follow-up, comment......SOMETHING? when they can't finish a race, when they are injured, or when they are euthanized. At any rate, my PREMISE is correct and righteous. 3 days is enough to get an evaluation, and the silence is deafening. As a fan of this young horse, who was TC nominated and ran in a prep race, surely his condition is of interest to some fans? All I really wanted to say was Outrage is appropriate when it comes to a horse being vanned off without a word. Unfortunately the reality is that the connections have no obligation at all to divulge anything about their "property".
