6 races - 10 godolphin runners:
• Big Team (USA) • Bright Start (USA) • Home City (IRE) • Nader (GB) • Nations Pride (IRE) • New Kingdom (GB) • Royal Fleet (GB) • Star Safari (GB) • Stunning Beauty (IRE) • Volcanic Sky (GB)
I gotta say...
after years of kentucky derby money-burners,
it feels a little strange to be rooting for them now.

MEY R2 (9:35am ET)- 6f (Handicap) (Turf) (3yo+ 90-103)Outside of two or three of these there isn't much recent good form, so an 'improbable-on-paper' result is quite likely. #2- Jadwal (5-2) has won two in a row over C&D on non-Carnival days, but has a consistent turf record, 6F is his game, and he draws favorably in six. #8- Ibn Malik (8-1) has mostly been trying dirt for the last few years, without too much to show for it, but his two turf tries this season were close thirds, including right behind Jadwal in early January. 9yo gets his fifth jockey in as many tries, but he ran pretty well at the Carnival in two GIIIs on dirt and could be the one to surprise in here. EX- 2,8/1,2,7,8 Result: 1,2,7 Looked like Jadwal had it in the bag, but Batwan ($8.30) split the Shadwell runners and got his head in front at the end. Very sad incident with Highland Dress going down mid-race. Not sure why they even ran him right back on 7 days rest, his recent form was dismal.
MEY R4 (10:45am ET)- 1m2f Dubai Millennium Stakes (Group 3) (Turf) (4yo+)
#6- Star Safari (7-5) won this last year, really enjoys this track (7/4-1-1), and this is his distance (5/3-0-1). #11- Royal Fleet (2-1) has been progressive through seven starts (7/4-2-0). He's finished second here twice in GIIs behind Desert Fire and Lord Glitters, but he seemed to wander around in the stretch of both of those races, so they've put blinkers-on today. Tries 10F for the first time, but no reason he shouldn't handle it. Don't overlook #10- Integrant (7-1). Slowly improving 4yo son of Frankel makes second start of the meet, wasn't far behind Start Safari in last. EX- 6,11/4,6,10,11 Result: 11,6,9 Exacta $12.20 Star Safari made the lead in mid-stretch but Royal Fleet ($4.40) kept on trying and got his nose back in front at the wire. Nice run from Castlebar for a close third at 52-1.MEY R5 (11:20am ET)- 1m2f Jumeirah Derby (Conditions) (Turf) (3yo)Underwhelming finale to the new 3yo turf series here. #5- New Kingdom (even) is the obvious favorite, but still has questions to answer concerning class and distance. Gets Dettori, not a lock. #6- Pjerrot (8-1) was right behind New Kingdom two back, then fired a dud on the dirt in the 2000 Guineas (GIII). Wheels right back and is battle tested. Offers an alternative to Godolphin/Appleby. I really like #8- Sed Maarib (8-1) for Fawzi Nass, but he's flattened out in both his starts at a mile or more. He's a very good 7F closer, hope to see him back in GB this summer. EX- 5,6/4,5,6,8 Result: 4,8,5 The other-Godolphin Nation's Pride ($5.00) always looked like the winner, sat in fourth behind his keen stablemate and gradually eased to the front, holding off the closing Sed Maarib, which ran a great race at a distance that shouldn't have been his best. New Kingdom was fractious before the race, wears a 'Monty Roberts' blanket in the gate, and a hood, Frankie kept him away from the others until the turn, seems to have issues. Still ran on for third.TW

Update: William Buick and Tadgh O'Shea off their mounts, positive tests for Covid. Ironically, they only got tested because they were travelling to the Saudi Cup, now out of those races too. Super Saturday?? Stay tuned.

Interesting finish—-maybe losing Buick made the difference—assuming 11 finished in front
Go dolphin/Appleby either way

Betting mistakes continue to be my downfall. Trying to save money in the 5th, ended up missing the winning exacta play, that was in my original exacta combo...
