I just wanted to watch a western... a good old-fashioned horse picture. Something with scenery and a story and horses. Lots of horses.
All the buzz about the power of the dog... It's ridiculous. This is an awful movie. Agonizingly tedious. Mush, not mushy, mush. If Cumberbatch thinks he's going to get an award just for showing his weiner... he can forget it. I found it excruciating to watch him perform his perfect American accent... (only once did i detect the english accent) there we're times, however, where it sounded like he was doing Tom Selleck.
And the script, what nonsense. Obvious. Nothing original or interesting here. And the pace, my God, the pace... Directing 101 fail!
I'd say it was two hours I'll never get back, but Miss Kirsten Dunst is worth seeing. She is so lovely and a very fine actress.
The power of the dog... it's not the Western you're looking for.

Respect. R e s p e c t! Great film. Great performances. Even if it were a bad movie, The Music would save it, but this is a darn fine motion picture... Highest recommendation. Miss Hudson is brilliant!

Rita Moreno is a beautiful gift to this world and her performance in the reimagined West Side Story is simply breathtaking.
Spielberg gives the movie A Spielberg look and I suppose it works... movie musicals are tough.

Tick Tick boom... A movie about a musical. Maybe it's me and maybe after a lifetime of performing musical theater, I'm simply tired of it, but I really miss the old style shows with actual Melodies and beautiful lyrics. Recitative... It's all recitative in the newfangled style of musical theater... I don't care for it.

Watched "The Hangover" on Netflix the other day (how I missed that one over the years I'll never know) absolutely HILARIOUS ! Non stop laughs. Just to give an idea of the scope of what I watch....caught "The Apartment" with Jack Lemmon again (never can see that one enough..favorite actor) Billy Wilder hits a home run there. (CC Baxter takes home $97.50 a week...apartment rent was $80 a month...but after the landlady put in an old air conditioner the rent went up to $85 (1960) ) Can recommend "Ozark" Netflix......If you liked Breaking Bad...you'll like this. Also "The Last Kingdom is coming out with season 5 next month...if looking for something to binge watch this is a good one. That's my Siskel and Ebbert.

My wife signed up for Netflix. I did watch Ozarks and The Money Heist. Have enjoyed both of them. Did watch most of Miss Maisel the first Mexican drug cartel series. A lot of musician biographies.
Very much enjoyed jack Lemmon throughout. Other than that, I am a Bogart, Tracy, Cagney, Edward G, Gable, Greenstreet, Welles era kind of guy.
Television—-nfl, racing and the Greg Gutfeld show(imo hilarious), KET

I worked with Will Smith in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air... One of the nicest actors I have ever met. The producers of the show thought his career was coming to an end because he was getting older and wasn't going to be young and cute anymore... They were wrong.
It his new film, King Richard, Will Smith turns in a powerful performance. Detailed and emotional. He displays strength and vulnerability in an exquisite performance. The Venus and Serena Williams story is fascinating and beautifully told in this wonderfully acted film.

I watch mostly films of the 1930s -1950s, with a healthy number from the 1960s and 1970s and a bit of a dip into Silents from the 1920s. I've seen quite a few movies from the 1980s on but am finding it more an more difficult to enjoy modern films. I'm just not interest in Marvel/CGI extravaganzas.
My favorite genres are probably the Warner Bros films with Bogart, Cagney, Davis, Flynn, Dehavailand and film noir. Also very open to foreign films and sub titles don't bother me.

PS- I agree that movie musicals are difficult to do well. My favorites include Oliver, Flower drum song and All That Jazz.

Jack Lemon is one of my all time favorites. The Odd Couple is a given but The Out of Towners was awesome. Sandy Dennis was great, Steve Martin version was terrible imo...
I watched the original movie The Fly with Vincent Price. Interesting.

Just happened to watch Pale Rider last night, one of the Clint Eastwood movies of a man WITH a name in this case - Preacher. I like Westerns that capture what I think conditions in the West were like at the time based on what I see of the present day landscape out there. I think that the TV series 1883, prequel to Yellowstone, captures that well. Watched the first two free episodes but with all the steaming services I didn't want the shell out $ per month for ANOTHER one.

Masterfully directed by Kenneth Branagh, Belfast should be on the list of films to see. Brilliant use of black&white and color film. All the actors give beautiful performances. Powerful. Emotional. This film will get your ire up.
Highest 'Bad' Recommendation. (patent pending)

Clints new show "Cry Macho" ...well, I'll reserve comments but would like to see what others have to say who has seen it., especially the Badactor (if you've seen it).
Branagh has been great in every film I've seen him in. I think he stars in the new film Death on the Nile. Gal Gadot stars as well...

The best movie I ever saw was "Beyond the Rainbow" starring Clara Bow. She was movieland's first sex star - of course I was too young to know what that meant.

Jessica Chastain in the movie The Eyes Of Tammy Baker should deserves an Oscar for Best Actress! She was also fantastic in Mollys Game...
I had forgotten Jim Baker went to prison for fraud. The film also stars actors portraying Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson.

Enjoying another season of Ted Lasso. Not quite as sharp as last year and the drama is a bit forced, but I got to know the characters last year and I like them. Enjoyable comedy.
