Meydan (and nearby Jebel Ali) have ran four cards already, all dirt races, so many horses are making their second or even third start now. Turf racing starts on New Year's Day, and the Dubai World Cup Carnival begins January 13th and culminates March 26th with the Dubai World Cup meeting, with races totaling $30.5M in purse money on that day.

R2 (10:10am ET)- 6f (Handicap) (Dirt) (3yo+ 65-90)
#1- Way Of Wisdom (5-1), #6- Rich And Famous (5-2), and #7- Quiet Endeavour (3-1) return from the same race two weeks ago. Rich And Famous won that event, making third start of his form cycle, gets a bump in the ratings but can easily repeat, especially with jockey upgrade to Barzalona today. Way Of Wisdom was making first start since April, closed well for third and should move forward from that race. #2- Taneen (7-1) is a much better turf runner but has some dirt form that could contend here.
EX- 1,6/1,2,6,7 Result: 6,2,7 Exacta $40.10 Rich And Famous ($7.50) surprisingly wasn't the PT favorite, was forwardly placed throughout, took over heading for home and widened to the wire. Taneen ran on well for second in his first run over the track, while never threatening the winner.
R4 (11:20am ET)- 7f (Conditions) (Dirt) (3yo+)
#2- Kafoo (2-1) is an exciting prospect. 3yo son of Curlin out of 3yo filly champion Blind Luck (MGIW, Kentucky Oaks, Alabama S., etc) made belated debut last month going a mile over this course, winning off easily by 6 1/2 lengths. Faces elders today and this should show where he fits going forward. #4- Major Cinnamon (22-1) broke his maiden here in March, showed little in comeback effort at a mile, expecting better today. #6- Prince Eiji (8-5) was last seen running against Palace Pier at Royal Ascot, now finds himself in Doug Watson's barn making first dirt start. Dubawi throws AW runners, and some dirt horses as well. If this were a turf race he'd be 1-5. #7- Story Of Light (5-2) just missed in a similar race at Jebel Ali, picks up some weight and stretches out today.
EX- 2,7/2,4,6,7 Result: 2,6,7 Exacta $9.80 What a race! Kafoo ($6.50) tracks Prince Eiji into the home straight, with the two far in front of the other runners, and gradually wears him down in the final two jumps in an Affirmed/Alydar battle for the victory. Not sure you'll see either one run back for a month, they both emptied out the tanks.
R5 (11:55am ET)- 1m The Dubai Creek Mile (Listed Race) (Dirt) (3yo+)
Listed stakes with most of the entrants off since March. #9- Thegreatcollection (9-2) started his career as a 2yo at GP in 2016, then was purchased privately and turned over to Doug Watson in 2017, racing exclusively in Dubai since. Had his best season last year, winning this event and taking two seconds in GII events. The one to beat. #11- Panadol (7-2) has two wins and a second in three starts, finishing runner up to Rebel's Romance in the UAE Derby in March. Faces elders today, but if he's grown up over the last six months he could be tough. Bred by Chester & Mary Broman, he's a NY-Bred. #1- Midnight Sands (3-1) won a GIII here on Super Saturday, then was up the track in the Godolphin Mile but suffered a leg injury in the process. Prolific winner here (8/6-1-0). #2- Ajuste Fiscal (8-1) was a GI winner in Uruguay, found graded-stakes company much tougher overseas, but still ran respectably at Meydan this past winter.
EX- 9,11/1,2,9,11 Result: 10,5,9 Tuz ($34.00) proved his graded-stakes form here last year was not a fluke with a fine stalk-and-pounce move to get the win. Panadol showed speed but quickly faded to last, hope he's okay. Thegreatcollection was near the back early, closed for third without really threatening the top two, should improve from today, and probably next time too.
R6 (12:30pm ET)- 7f Mirdif Stakes (Conditions) (Dirt) (2-3yo)
2yo going 7F for a nice purse. #6- Taking Names (6-5) won impressively on debut by 8+ lengths here at Meydan last month, son of Arrogate has at least three SW half-siblings and may turn out to be a useful horse.
EX- 6/2,3,4 Result: 2,9,5 Azure Coast ($30.00) comes from way out of it to run down the maiden Withering, blowing up the 'inside-speed-bias' theory of the day, and blowing up the tote as well. Third win in a row for jockey Tadhg O'Shea. Taking Names was away poorly and could only recover for fourth.
R7 (1:05pm ET)- 1m1½f (Handicap) (Dirt) (3yo+ 65-97)
Not a lot of consistent form on display from these, but #3- Mulfit (2-1) jumped up on seasonal bow winning by 8 lengths. Ten points higher on the ratings as a result, but could repeat with a similar front-running effort.
EX- 3/2,5,9 Result: 10,4,6 Kanood ($17.00) was getting weight from all the others, nearly ran off the screen winning for David Egan and sneaky good trainer Fawzi Nass, who clearly had this one ready to fire off the break.
