Beautiful weather day here in NY, sunny and 60s. Won't get many more opportunities for quality AQU turf racing. Taking a few stabs.
AQU R1- Mdn 80k 1 3/16 Mile (t) 3&up
#9- Conquer the World (5-2) finished third on debut, had a smooth rail trip until turning for home. Didn't seem comfortable down inside, lacked a seam, finally came running when he saw daylight, ran out of racetrack. $1.5M Curlin colt should appreciate the added distance, and an outside draw under Luis Saez. Big chance. Not impressed by either of the two Chads in here, although Balthus figures to improve in second start. 1,2,4,7 underneath.
EX- 9/1,2,4,7 Result: 9,2,5 Exacta $52.50 Conquer the World ($10.20) got pinched severely by the horses on either side leaving the gate, dropped over to the fence in dead last. Bided his time until commencing a sustained run into the far turn, looping the entire field except for the runaway pacesetter, reeled that one in inside the 1/16th pole. MUCH the best. Amazed that he went off at 4-1, and that the exacta (sans Chads) returned fifty bucks! Shows how much blind $ gets wagered just because of the trainer. He'll beat me again soon, and often, but today I got the last laugh.

AQU R2- NYB Mdn 70k 1 1/16 Mile (T) 2yo
#1- Convertible Freeze (9-2) got wrangled to the back of the field last time by Jose Ortiz, sat behind a glacial pace all the way around, commenced a run at the top of the stretch, ran up on heels at the eighth pole, still finished with interest. Didn't run back in the October BEL race for this condition, has had five works in the interim. Should save ground from the rail, but will need to find a hole turning for home. #3- Hard Traveler (10-1) got clobbered out of the gate in last, steadied on the clubhouse turn, committed to a rail trip into the stretch behind a moderate pace, then rallied strongly for fourth beaten less than two lengths first time going two turns. Bullet work at LRL in the holster, ships in with intent. Live longshot IMO. Think Mott's Curlin seems more like a dirt horse. 8,10,11 all FTS with nice pedigrees and lousy post positions. Trying those two on top over the unexposed turf types.
EX- 1,3/1,3,4,5,8,10,11 WIN- 3 Result: 9,8,4 Convertible Freeze ducked left badly leaving the gate, sat at the back of the field until reaching the top of the stretch, ran on strongly to the wire but could only manage fifth, beaten about three lengths. Hard Traveler sat a good pocket trip all the way around, but Kendrick was insistent about trying to get through down on the inside and the horse seemed hesitant to follow suit, got steadied nearing the wire and lost all chance. Should have tipped out for the seam that opened in mid-stretch. Both can be bet back, but with different riders/tactics.

AQU R5- NYB Mdn 70k 1 1/16 Mile (T) 2yo FilliesFilly version of R2. Chad's #7- Russia3 (5-2) ran in the second, and faster, division of this condition on 8 October. Sat a smooth trip in mid-pack, tipped out turning for home, lugged in a bit under right-handed whip, straightened out and ran on belatedly for second. #2- Saratoga Chrome (7-2) was DQd from the win in first turf try, ran a similar race last out finishing well, but left with too much to do as the winner spurted away. Hard to see anything else winning this one besides those two. WIN- 7 if the m/l holds Result: 11,2,7 Saratoga Chrome looked home free mid-stretch as the Chad horse (6-5) couldn't quicken despite a perfect trip, then Dylan Davis came storming home on Clement FTS New Ginya ($24.40), a $250K daughter of Tonalist bred by Robert Evans. Interestingly, Evans bred her, but sold her for only $25K as a yearling, then bought her back privately for a considerably larger sum after she was the NYB sale topper at OBSJUN this year. Overlooked this one in the PPs, big mistake. One to follow in NYB (or open) company going forward.

AQU R8- NYB Alw 72000n1x 1 1/16 Mile (T) 3&up
Pace play. All the logical contenders are closers, save the #5- Barrage (9-2). Luis Saez should send him to the front and try to steal it. War Dancer seems like he might be the next good NYB turf sire.
WIN- 5

CTW was hugely the best, TW! Left the gate like a knucklehead... ran home like champ. Good call.
