Juvenile Turf Sprint
1. DERRYNANE
2. ARMOR
3. AVERLY JANE
Longshot: GO BEARS GO
Lots of speed signed up here so I’m going with a closer. This gal has come off the pace to win 2 of 3 turf starts. Only bad race was on a yielding turf. Rosario is one of the top turf sprint jockeys and can get her up at big odds to get Clement his first Breeders Cup win. ARMOR is a top class Euro who should be right there. Can’t knock AVERLY JANE who is undefeated but with lots of pace pressure in here, I look to beat her especially at low odds. GO BEARS GO is the sleeper in here.
Juvenile Fillies
1. HIDDEN CONNECTION
2. JUJUS MAP
3. ECHO ZULU
There are three top fillies in here and don’t think Echo Zulu should be 4/5. HIDDEN CONNECTION’s two races are as good as anything Echo has put up and she’s been working great and at 3/1, she’s great value. Have to respect anything Brad Cox sends out and this Miss can be any kind. Using all 3 on pick 3 tickets.
Juvenile Fillies Turf
1. CONSUMER SPENDING
2. MISE EN SCENE
3. PIZZA BIANCA
Longshot: HELLO YOU
Like Brad Cox, have to respect anything Chad Brown puts on the track; he is the king of Breeders Cup turf. This gal ran second to her highly regarded stablemate and then reeled off two nice scores. Yes, the Selima field was weak, but that’s not her fault. MISE EN SCENE is a high class Euro who fits with these. PIZZA BIANCA had some trouble up at Woodbine but gives Clement a shot at his first BC win (if Derrynane doesn’t do it first). HELLO YOU can get a piece at a price.
Juvenile
1. JACK CHRISTOPHER
2. OVIATT CLASS
3. CORNICHE
Longshot: JASPER GREAT
Brown has supposedly been sky high on this horse since his first workout. On paper he looks like he lays all over this field with that 102 Beyer. Beware! The last 10 Juveniles who popped a triple digit Beyer, all bounced in their next start. It might be too much, too soon for a young horse. OVIATT CLASS comes from the same connections as Texas Red, who won this race a few years ago at big odds. He was flying in his last and if there’s a pace meltdown in here, he can light up the board. CORNICHE regressed to an 85 Beyer after stretching out. JASPER GREAT a son of the mighty Arrogate, broke his maiden in smashing fashion in Japan. The field he beat was suspect but he can be any kind.
Juvenile Turf
Update: Jack Christopher scratched. Maybe that 102 fried him. Now Oviatt Class becomes my top play but he won’t be anywhere near the price I was looking for. Jasper Great could be the play if he’s 10-1.
1. DUBAWI LEGEND
2. ALBAHR
3. MODERN GAMES
3. PORTFOLIO COMPANY
Longshot: TIZ THE BOMB
I watched DUBAWI LEGEND’s last race and it was impressive. The horse that beat him is the top 2 year old in Europe. I’m not thrilled with post 14, but I never throw out a horse I like just because of PP. ALBAHR is one of two Appleby runners in here and he and O’Brien do very well sending horses over for the Breeders Cup. MODERN GAMES is the other and I couldn’t separate him from PORTFOLIO COMPANY for the 3rd slot. PC exits the Pilgrim which has been a key race for the Juvenile Turf the past few years. In that race, he was a head off Annapolis, who would have been the favorite if he was in.
Good Luck
Steve
