In all the excitement of football I overlooked a major event tonight. Dontae Wilder vs. Tyson Fury for the heavyweight titles. As much as I would love to watch it, I will NEVER pay Fox or anyone else a dime to watch what should be free...

You didn’t overlook it …the fight is next Saturday .How much are they charging ? If you would love to see it why don’t you pony up for it .The list of events that used to be shown live on free tv is numerous . Life’s too short !

I thought it was last night. Anyway, like said, it's not a matter of money...it's been my custom for a long time when it comes to boxing I refuse to pay for something that should be free. It's not like everyone involved, especially the boxers are trying to scrape by. They make millions. Don King punked Tyson out of millions. Life is too short is a cliché I've never understood. Life is life. But I know what you mean Bev. :>)

I will pay to watch this fight because all my friends in Scotland will be watching it and I want to talk to them about it . Don’t understand why boxing should be different from UFC ? I pay to watch the Rugby internationals and they always used to be free. I would also gladly play to watch the Golf majors and the Ryder Cup without commercials as that is the worst sport to watch live on tv . I can understand your principle Spanky but in reality who are you hurting , apart from yourself , by denying yourself the pleasure of watching something you obviously enjoy.

I appreciate your comments Bev and my outlook could change. I saw something about Scotland concerning (I think) a new liquor being sold or developed. Any idea what I am talking about? Perhaps a scotch?
I didn't watch or care for MMA fights but have kinda been watching as I can see with the decline in quality boxing matches the MMA is very popular, especially with the younger crowd. Makes sense.

Hell Spanky , I just checked the price for the fight .. $79.99…no way I’m paying that ..it’s only $33 in the UK and they are screaming blue murder about the price over there !
No idea what that the new drink you are talking about. Whisky is always going to be #1 in Scotland although we are producing some nice gins , the most famous being Hendricks which is from the same company that distills Glenfiddich and Balvenie single malt whiskies.

MMA , via UFC, is a well run sport. The fighters actually fight instead of protecting their records. The rankings are clear. The skills are incredible as they bring in ex-wrestlers and a variety of global martial artists (I prefer striking but am slowly learning to appreciate ground skills, which probably turn off boxing fans). The scorecards even make sense more often than not.
I do still prefer boxing, with all its warts, to MMA. I WILL pay for the Fury/Wilder 3 fight because I still don't feel like going to a crowded indoor bar with shouting people. Last time I did that was Fury Wilder 2 in Feb 2020, by the way.
I do support DAZN (100 bucks a year) and ESPN Plus (60 bucks) as a way to see lots of boxing and MMA without plunking down for a PPV. That model (lower costs but not free, commercials to help pay the bills) hopefully promotes the sports and pays the fighters.

Good to hear from ya Matt! I think you've articulated my thoughts in a much better w3ay than I did...lol...I've resisted ESPN plus and never heard of DAZN but I'm looking at changing the way I stream a few things. The club thing I can relate to as well although the last time I watched a PPV fight in a bar was way back for Tyson fights. I even recall way back when they offered big fights here in our Civic Center Auditorium! OLD SCHOOL! Dana White has done good things for the sport no doubt.
I'll check with bro. I've mentioned many times, his 35 years in the booze business

So, you have $100 bucks. Where do you lay your bucks?

RE: Where to lay 100 bucks
1) Well if I have to spend 80 on the fight at home, I'd bet the remaining ten bucks each on Fury KO in RD 9 and 10 at 15-1.
2) If I go to the sports bar (just saw that it is NO COVER and no standing room so that helps), I'd blow 50 bucks on booze /burger / tip. Then throw 10 bucks each on the Fury RD 9 and 10 KO and 30 bucks on the Fury judge's decision +260
Figure that their is no way Wilder wins a decision, but a decent enough chance that Wilder gets frustrated again early and just waits for the big right hand that never comes until the clock runs out. Fury, on the other hand, really does want to put on a show and if he senses Wilder is too predictable to be dangerous, he'll open it up and go for another knockout. If it makes to RD 11 and 12 and Fury is way up on points, then I think Fury would just lay low to avoid another crazy finish like the first fight.
So my betting logic is that Fury is a better fighter and won't lose, Wilder will do a better job than last fight so no early KO, Fury will have a two or three round stretch where he goes for it, but if that window expires he'll run out the clock. If I'm wrong and there's an early KO, that's good entertainment so I don't care if I lose the bets.

Yes, with all due respect to sheepdogs and eyeglasses, the heavyweight championship of the world was pretty entertaining.

I saw some of the fight on a streaming device I found thru youtube. The funny part was...usually, even when two fighters claim they don't like each other, to help promote the fight, they usually congratulate each other after the fight. Fury went to the Wilder as he sat on his stool still bleeding from his ear, mouth and eye...and cursed Wilder and called him a loser! Long live the Gyspy King!
