Feared this was coming. He has had some health issues in recent years and it was recently announced he would not be joining a tour this year. Very fine drummer, and though he came across as quiet, with the right interviewer, he gave some of the y very best interviews (and best of any of the Stones IMO)

Not in the Neil Pert category IMO, but his longevity was amazing. Imagine the stories he could tell...the fact the whole band has lasted this long is amazing in itself...

From Keith Richard's memoir:
"We were in Amsterdam for a meeting. Mick and I weren't on great terms at the time, but I said, c'mon, let's go out...
We got back to the hotel about five in the morning and Mick called up Charlie. I said, don't call him, not at this hour. But he did, and said, 'Where's my drummer?' No answer. He puts the phone down. Mick and I were still sitting there, pretty pissed - give Mick a couple of glasses, he's gone - when, about twenty minutes later, there was a knock at the door. There was Charlie Watts, Savile Row suit, perfectly dressed, tie, shaved, the whole fucking bit. I could smell the cologne!
I opened the door and he didn't even look at me, he walked straight past me, got a hold of Mick and said 'Never call me your drummer again.' Then he hauled him up by the lapels and gave him a right hook. Mick fell back onto a silver platter of smoked salmon on the table... twelve hours later [Charlie] was saying, 'Fuck It, I'm gonna go down and do it again.'"

OK--the Rush drummer--he is good Maybe the largest drum kit that I have seen The guy that impressed me was the black guy with Richard Thompson electric trio doing it with about 20% as many drums I was in the crowd of the bottom video

Ginger Baker, who in my opinion stood pretty close to the top of all drummers (I like Gene Krupa, and Buddy Rich quite a bit too), once was asked about whether he'd seen the Sones on their latest tour, he laughed and said Charlie is the only one he would go to see, he thought Charlie was an excellent drummer, and he was right. I love that drum part on Get off My Cloud too.
