R6 (3:03pm EDT)- ONTARIO COLLEEN S.. Grade III. Purse $150,000 FOR THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES. 1 MILE TURF.
EX- 6,7/2,4,8 6-Seasons (7-1) another daughter of Winter Memories for Toner. 7-Speightstown Shirl (3-1) is Attfield with Emma Jayne, improving. Result: 2,6,7 Casse/Husbands team up with Our Flash Drive ($6.90) which sat just off a no hope longshot through a half mile in 48 3/5, came home with a lot left in 46 2/5.
R9 (4:55pm EDT)- DANCE SMARTLY S.. Grade II. Purse $175,000 FOR FILLIES AND MARES, THREE-YEAR-OLDS AND UPWARD. 1 1/4 MILE TURF.
TRI- 5/1/ALL Etoile (2-1) is Chad/Irad/Brant & Co., second in this last year before winning the E.P. Taylor here in October. Good GI try at KEE in April, seems like a fragile mare but they've picked their spots wisely. Hoping that Blame Debbie can take them all the way round and hold off the rest. Result: 6,5,2 Pace didn't develop as expected, opening quarter in 26 seconds. Good ride by Dylan Davis on the winner Mutamakina ($8.80), galloped around in second in no hurry to press the leader, took over in the stretch and held off Etoile, which was always left with a bit too much to do. Second graded-stakes win for Dylan aboard the winner, also won the Long Island (GIII) at AQU with her.
R10 (5:42pm EDT)- QUEEN'S PLATE S.. Purse $1,000,000 FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS, FOALED IN CANADA. 1 1/4 MILE AW.
EX- 6,12/2,7,8,10 6- Munnyfor Ro (9-2) was ok on turf, switched to AW and finished second in the Selene S. (GIII) and won the Woodbine Oaks three weeks ago. Justin Stein had a choice and took her to ride. 12- Tidal Forces (12-1) draws poorly, but has the pedigree to run all day, trainer Gail Cox gets one more Sam-son horse to win the Plate with. Result: 1,7,5 Phil Serpe wins a million-dollar, Grade I race with a first-time AW horse, Safe Conduct ($8.00). I'm heading out to buy lottery tickets, my turn. Seriously, fun to see longtime Serpe assistant/partner Lisa Bartkowski in the winner's circle with Irad.
R11 (6:25pm EDT)- HIGHLANDER S.. Grade I. Purse $350,000 FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS AND UPWARD. 6 FURLONGS TURF. {Fun Fact: There are currently only three Grade One turf sprints in North America; The Jaipur Stakes (BEL 6F) since 2019, The Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (5-6.5F), and the Hillander S. (6F) since 2018.
WIN- 1 Five-way speed duel for the lead, Irad gets sucked in too close, takes over in mid-stretch but doesn't see 1-Old Chestnut (10-1) storming down the lane to nail him on the wire.
