Having a blast with Colleen and Rob! Just noticed that Joseph O'Brien photobombed us (blue suit, glasses). We talked to him briefly, first time at Saratoga, won a GI (Saratoga Derby Inv.) with State of Rest. TW

‘pinhooking’ *to buy thoroughbred foals aged between six to eight months old
and sell them within the year as ‘yearlings’. In the trade, it is known as ‘pinhooking’*
The term “pinhooking” is an old Kentucky tobacco term used when a speculator
would buy a farmer's young plants and later identify them with a pinned note at market.
Buying the plants low and selling high would return substantial profit for the speculators.

Fabricio Buffolo, buying on behalf of Besilu Stables, was the underbidder.
Besilu Stables, which helped to drive up the sale topper's price, ended the sale without any purchases. "The idea is just to buy a few yearlings, just a handful, five or six yearlings, to race," said Buffolo. "[The market] was strong, but it's great results for the breeders. We'll try again in September."
