My first cut was EQ off the board. Second cut was BB off the board. None of them rocked my world. Medina Spirit is the horse of a lunchtime. Race 12 Thinkin' Baffy Off The Board.
Somebody open a window and let some of the wrong out.π

"You probably won't have to interview me afterwards....." Oh gee. Not confidence inspiring. Good thing I don't play poker. I guess I'm easy to "fake out". Is there any maiden, even a $1,000 horse like Medina Spirit, that Bob can't turn into a $1 million G1 winner after a few races? I remember remarking on the cheap price when I first saw him and looked him up and was wondering how he found this one with Gail. Does Bob train a lot of $1,000 horses? Other HOF trainers, experienced trainers with expensive high-dollar well-bred horses, must be missing something. They need to get a clue, right?

I don't know shoes. He had one of the higher BSF's and the 7 & 8 had some of the stronger E1 with E2 figures. I didnt bet him to win but did fine on the race with speed figure inclusion, with RYW.
I still look at DI CD and it was nice, and more attractive to me than 80% of the field.
Thought the exacta pay was healthy and it would have been a very big day if Whitmore stayed up for 2nd. Amateur move not spending extra to key in all 3 holes.

I have a good buddy that analyzed the race and came up with the thought that Medina Spirit would inherit a relatively easy lead if Rock Your World didn't break well. And from there, he thought it could be a repeat of what Authentic did last year. Wish I would have paid more attention to that possibility!

Could have had Medina for $1,000 at Ocala two years ago. Heck last year sold for $35,000. The diamond in a barrel of coal. Total handle yesterday $233,000,000. More than 51,000 fans are ready to watch the 2021 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The official attendance of 51,838 at today's #KentuckyDerby is the largest crowd at an American sporting event since the pandemic began 14 months ago. Medina Sire's best progeny besides him...was El Sobreviviente earning a whopping $29,000 Medina so far $2,150,000

ski- I didn't mean to suggest that MS was a no hoper or that there wasn't logic in using him, only that for many people who weren't really paying attention, they didn't need a reason beyond the name of the trainer. After the Pat Day mile I began to think that whomever of Medina, RYW or HRC got to the lead first, that they would be tough.

Essential Quality ran 68 feet further then Medina Spirit(Johnny V with an excellent ride).....was sitting on a 300-1 pool two exacta with EQ over MS.....had the adrenaline pumping in the last 1/16th. Nice to see crowds again, thought CD did a great job Fri and Sat....now need about a week to clear the head. Now does Baffert enter Concert Tour in the Preakness against Medina Spirit? Interesting two weeks ahead.

I wondered how the Concert tour decision might be impacted as well.

I think Baffert might have trouble convincing owner Gary West to skip the Preakness.

That won't happen because nobody really wants to talk about .... the elephant in the room and how Baffert has taken classic distance racing in the wrong direction. Did you ever ask yourself why the topmost HOF trainers, who know a thing or 2 about training horses, keep "letting" Baffert walk away with the KY Derby and so many million $ races? He got a horse who, in the late stages of every race traveling 9f and under, has consistently dropped in form, to magically wire a 10f track. It's not like Bob Baffert is doing anything "special" in his training methods (other than continuing the trend that Lukas started and that is to train classic distance race horses using quarter horse methods, speed speed and more speed, which is entirely wrong for classic distance racing / this type of horse. I've watched them all over the world and their careers last more than 1 year. ) I mean, ANY trainer can see what and how he's training. But has anyone asked, even to themselves, WHY the myraid of great HOF trainers don't employ the same methods? (It's a rhetorical question for me, so I won't answer it.)

I think Baffert might have trouble convincing owner Gary West to skip the Preakness. DRF. Concert Tour, who skipped the Kentucky Derby after a disappointing third-place finish in the Arkansas Derby, will run in the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes on May 15 at Pimlico, setting up a match with stablemate Medina Spirit, the Derby winner, trainer Bob Baffert said Monday afternoon. Baffert said Gary West, who along with his wife, Mary, bred and own Concert Tour, "wants to take a shot."

Would not be surprised if...
Medina has some minor ailment and/or issue requiring him to be withdrawn from the Preakness at some point within the next week or so...especially if there is a lot of speed signed up for the middle leg of the triple crown...just a hunch...too cynical?
Also, a question. Given the modest pedigree, how likely is a stud deal for Medina Spirit? Price range? Timing? Just wondering.

Medina spirit should be sold into fractional shares as a racing prospect. Lotta money sloshing around right now. And I don't mean from stud farms.
I personally would pass but it would be a very 2021 thing to do.

And Broodmare sire was Brilliant Speed who has won quite a lot of 12F races on turf. El Sobreviviente really turfy, too on dam side.
