I’m sure you will get it up but I really really liked what I saw from Mandaloun this morning. I think he rebounds for a piece but EQ has been my horse since his debut and he did nothing to dissuade either. Also really liking my future wager on Pauline’s Pearl.

Shoes, the work was certainly a confidence boost but was against a Turfway maiden who ran off early and was spent before the wire. Still MB looked the part sans getting loose back at the barn!

Who can catch Midnight Bourbon?
This morning he had just fired a bullet workout at Churchill Downs when the excitement started!
Heading out of the barn to get his post-workout bath, Midnight Bourbon broke loose from his handlers
and created some tense moments as TV cameras and photographers recorded his every move.

I cannot warm up to Midnight Bourbon.....I need to fix that.........or not.
I like Helium's work. He is not rail-shy, that's for sure, rider puts him close, if he swishes his tail it will touch. Good to show him how to take those turns nice and tight.
I need an explanaiton for this. Soup and Sandwich got off his trailer, okay it was dark, but I watched his CDX "arrival" video and he had ribs showing thru pretty obviously. Now a few days later he look "almost plump". I literally thought I had the wrong horse while watching his latest work, which was a wonderful work. But how does a horse go from ribs showing to filled out in what, 2-3 days?
Given a choice between Bourbonic and Dynamic One.....I'll take Dynamic One.
Badactor: given a choice between KA and Sainthood........I'll take Sainthood.

Ozzy, I just saw the clip where he got loose back at the barn. That could have been bad, fast work by someone to save the day.

been workin to get better at this. i'll say three things. one negative, one neutral and one positive.
negative. elusive quality lugged out real badly on the gallpop out. categorically play against this type.
neutral. lots of meh looking workouts. times vary, looks don't. was grasping for positives, especially for live futures as well as those that've paid on the road in. in a word they're samey.
positive. best drill wasn't at churchill. rock your world's move popped these eyeballs. could be inexperience cuz the action is high legged turfy and that's maybe misinterpreted by this noob as eager reaching and intensified power/energy. don't care. loved it.

Watched quite a few of the recent works last night
EQ is a very consistent, professional/intuitive racehorse. I would imagine the Whisperer to really like him. His #s are always good enough to get the win. Top trainer and rider. Very comfortable, calm recent work. Outside of favoritism, what's not to like? Mandaloun seems to be stressed when on the track recently. Not well composed when things don't go his way, as we watched him check out early in his last race. Two recent very quick works--one with the Ashland winner. Can't see him well-composed in a large field and large, noisy crowd(?). Caddo River is a toss for me if he goes, however I wouldn't mind seeing him set a legitimate pace.....
Chad Brown has two capable runners--Highly Motivated is coming off a taxing but impressive Bluegrass, and nothing to knock in his back form. Will he move forward, being lightly raced this year? Haven't seen a recent work---Helium's last work was impressive imo, and he stays under the radar.
Hot Rod Charlie is very interesting, since he seems to be competitive and with improving form. Haven't seen him work @ CD, but I like him to be a part of it. Probably the wise guy steamer.
Not in love with any of the Pletchers. I thought that Sainthood(has TP always trained this one?) looked more comfortable on the inside of Known Agenda. Something about KA doesn't seem right to me. Don't know much about his other two entries...
Asmussen is always a factor. Wasn't familiar with Super Stock until his last race, despite his nice back history. Santana stayed calm and pounced vs the two regressing speedball chalks who were maybe too worried about each other. I don't see Midnight Bourbon as being fast enough and maybe distance challenged, though he may well be on the lead(especially if Caddo doesn't run). You can be confident that Santana will give a very smart ride imo.
Rock Your World is obviously a very nice racehorse in good form. Is he good enough to ship east and dominate vs the top runners instead of his last group of pretenders? Maybe...
Soup and Sandwich---don't really care for his action. A very nice runner who may well get his name called for a while, but may not be around at the finish.
Plenty of others---Still 12 days away......need to watch how it goes from here, and how everyone comes out of their recent works. Also weather/track condition

I haven't seen a work by Hot Rod Charlie yet......I am trying to decide btween him and Mandaloun right now..... Soup and Sandwich worked with Epic Dreamer,a solid AOC gelding that has earned over $200,000. Also got some black-type in a G3 race. Mandaloun worked with Colonel Bowman,3yo Godolphin Curlin colt that just broke his maiden at FG in March.

first time really watching works, any thoughts on OBesos. Seemed really energetic to start and really fighting the rider, but seemed to settle in, very deliberate / driving front stride?

I'm no Mike Welsh or Bruno deJulio but I agree with your observations. He seemed really distracted going into it which could be a concern on May1 as far as distractions go even though it will be a reduced size Derby crowd. Once he leveled out, it looked like he was really getting over the track well. I'm going to ask you and others about Bourbonic's last solo work. I thought it looked much better than his work from the week before which was in company.

I am a member of Bruno DeJ's "gold circle", and have been so since last year's Derby and BC. His info/analyses were incredibly accurate and helpful---so much so that my wagering results just from those two weekends have more than covered the expense for the next few years... I usually participate in the webinars also. Very helpful, especially with 2yo season upon us. I have built a 30+ horses to watch list since the opening of Kee.
Bruno gives me the good info that fills in what I can't find out on my own, and is the perfect compliment to how I play the races(BRIS ultimates is the only other data that I use + my own eyes watching races/replays/works with 40+ years' experience breeding, buying, selling racing on a limited basis + avidly wagering...). If you are seriously playing this weekend's CD races, it might be worth your while to try his weekend CD package asap so that you have time to digest, understand and include to your handicapping process. End of honest commercial....
Workouts: Works are not races---Maybe don't compare works among a group of horses as much as comparing how a horse works individually. Trainer intent? Improving? Lengthening/shortening/speedy, inside/outside/solo, gallop out intended or just a maintenance shut down? With whom they work? Any pattern change? And how the runner returns to the track in the days following their works....Trainer work patterns and where they do their serious works prior to starts...Not to mention a fondness for the appropriate surface........we try to learn these things over years, however a good coach/new set of eyes/concepts can lead to a handicapping move forward.
jmo--=-so much to say.........
