Unbelievable event so far. At this point I have no idea who will win or even who to root for, but I do know that virtually every match has been a white knuckler. Skill of the players is otherworldly. Passion of the fans is like nothing I've seen. I say this as someone who came late to the sport, but wow! I've got your NFL right here....

I'm with you Gooch.Every game I have seen has been fun to watch. My only beef is all the flopps.Seems like sometimes they overdramatize the contact. But then again,I would do the same...just for the rest. One thing for sure is you have to be in top shape to play at that level.Your reference in regards to the NFL ? It brings to mind when one of my uncles was visiting from Ireland. We went to a pub to watch Sunday Football,Giants of course. He was following the game fine because basically it's a form of Rugby or Gaelic Football. With one big difference. At one point he turns to me and asks. Why do they keep stopping?

Fantastic tournament so far. Especially dramatic with the final group games going off simultaneously. As a former player I am dismayed by the simulation but happy with the VAR which was introduced for the first time this year. Will be watching the England v Belgium game tomorrow avidly. Probably the first time in World Cup history that both teams want to lose (so as to avoid going in the tougher half of the draw) . Both teams have identical points , goals and goal difference so it might come down to yellow cards. Look for a flurry of them if game is tied in final minutes.

All games are tough now. Rooting for Belgium with Courtois and Hazard.

going to go out on a limb here and say that neither france nor argentina will win the world cup this year...both sides are too disorganized on the back end to win it all...still think France will advance but defense can be exploited

spain and denmark move forward today.
really starting to like uruguay's chances to go very deep in tourney...remind me a little bit of the italian squad lead by Rossi back in the day...play solid defense and quick counter attacks on offensive end of the pitch.
also seems like a changing of the guard at the elite player level taking place with young talent such as Cavani and Mbappe moving forward while the old guard Ronaldo and Messi moving on.

Croatia, I think, today. Hard to predict anything this year.

Lotta Mexican Nationals in my area, and the Coastside will be rocking early tomorrow a.m. for the Tri vs. Brazil. Rooting for them, but figure a win is unlikely vs. Neymar, et al. Bars opening very early here, in any case ;-)

Los Hermanos go down. Good game, Brazil too good. Wow, are they fast! That guy Willian is a rocket.

What a brilliant game! I do think that Belgium got lucky with their first goal, and that turned the game around. Nevertheless, end-to-end right down to the last second. Amazing.
Mac, I remember that bit ;-)

does england go down tomorrow?
feel badly for the japanese team...would have certainly been one of the biggest upsets yet...agree with gooch...that Willian was burning up the pitch today for Brazil...very strong game.
if France and Brazil meet up after their next matches...going to be a track meet with both Willian and Mbappe...both very powerful with their speed and skill.

Slept in today and missed all but the last minutes of Swe/Swi. Getting pumped for the Three Lions!

Colombian pumpage. They seemed to think they had cartel backing with some of the stuff they were trying....
Lousy game, I thought.
Bev, I have a story about rooting for England vs Portugal in the European Cup (?), while sitting in a pub in Northern Scotland. I survived, but I did learn some things about how the UK neighbors felt about one another.

Allez France! Sorry to see Uruguay go down, but the French are better. Their next game vs. Brazil/Belgium winner will be more or less the World Cup Final, eh? If it is v. Brazil, maybe Neymar and Mbappe can have a Drama Queen contest at the half.
Looking forward to the late game!

Great game. Love the Belgian team and glad they are through. It's interesting to me how inconsistent some players can be, e.g. Willian, who was so hot in Brazil's last game, was nowhere today, and played so badly he was yanked at the half. Must be the hair...
I do wish France/Belgium was the cup final.
