Thanks Hoop. I think that the four recruits signed for net year were ranked #1, #5, #15 and #30. They will be additions to a team that should be pretty good this year [they already have the #1 recruit from last year] and may not lose anyone to graduation.
Geno Auriemma, always tongue in cheek, proclaimed that he is "trying to make the UCONN women bad for basketball again."
I just hope that they will be able to actually play this season without having games cancelled.

Would it be fair to say that women's college basketball is to the East what high school football is to the state of Texas?

Spanky, to answer your question: I can't generalize about the entire East, but here in CT the women's basketball program at UCONN has captivated many people's imagination since their first national championship in 1995 [the men's program has been pretty successful too, especially during the Jim Calhoun years]. We are split down the middle in baseball allegiance, heading out of state to either New York or Boston. Same for other major sports as well. The highest level of pro sports in the state is AA baseball. College football teams have, to put it delicately, not risen to national prominence. So, we are left to unite around college b'ball, and it brings out the fanatic in many of us.

Ahhh...gam knows Texas High School football! I imagine the folks in California and Ohio would beg to differ. I am familiar with Calhoun and his amazing accomplishments at U Conn. Everything is relevant. I'm sure CT is a beautiful state. And AA baseball is cool. Real baseball players busting their butts to climb their way to the Big Show.
