My Dad passed 5 years ago, but I honor him again today. He enlisted in the Coast Guard right out of high school in 1939 for what he thought was a 2 year stint. WW2 happened, and 2 years turned into 6. What started out as duty in the Great Lakes turned into running escort duty in the North Atlantic, facing German U Boats. Also my Uncle Leo who was part of the group that was memorialized in Band of Brothers. Also my 2 cousins Jim and Rod who served in Viet Nam (that great national tragedy of a war).
I salute you all.

Great thread shoes. My Dad was a veteran of the Korean War and like your Dad enlisted out of high school in the Army and while he's been in heaven for 30+ years this day is bittersweet still. As a teen of the sixties, I got caught up in the protests, and when I think back now I realize how wrong we were way back then. Salute.

Naval family here. Lost more than one veteran in service. Day of reflection for us.
