European entrants- (last three Racing Post Ratings) ~ (owner-trainer):
Lord North (98-123-126) (HH Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed Racing/Gosden)- Won the Prince Of Wales's Stakes (GI, 10F) at Royal Ascot, then ran third to unchallenged Ghaiyyath and Magical in the Juddmonte International Stakes, and there's no shame in that. More concerning was his last-place finish in the Champion Stakes (GI, 10F) over soft ground at Ascot on 17 October. Has he gone off form, or was that a one-off poor performance. Career turf record (10/5-2-1).
Magical (117-120-122) (Smith, et. al./A. O'Brien)- Ultra-consistent 5yo mare shows up for every GI dance, runs first or second nearly every time. Most recently beat Ghaiyyath in the Irish Champion S. (GI, 10F), then ran third behind Addeybb, which adored the deep ground for the British Champion S. (GI, 10F). She tried this race in 2018, finishing second at Churchill Downs 3/4-length behind Enable. Handles all ground. Big chance. Career turf record (26/12-7-1).
Also, Jerry Hannon (Ireland) is an awesome race caller!
Mogul (122-109-113) (Tabor, et. al./A. O'Brien)- Raced exclusively against 3yos in his six starts this season. Finally broke through with a GI victory in his last, beating In Swoop in the Grand Prix de Paris (GI, 12F) at Longchamp. In Swoop returned to run second in the Arc behind Sottsass. Best efforts have come over firmer ground. Needs to bring his best. Career turf record (7/3-0-1).
Tarnawa (116-116-113) (HH Aga Khan/Weld)- First preference is for this arguably tougher assignment. Three-for-three this season, the last two being GI-wins at Longchamp. Beat Dame Malliot in the Prix Vermeille (GI, 12F), then dropped back to 10F and vanquished Alpine Star and Audarya in the Prix de l'Opera. Handles all going, enters this in top form. Career turf record (13/7-2-2).
North American entrants-
Winning chance: Magical, Tarnawa
Will use underneath: Channel Maker, Lord North, Mogul.
