European entrants- (last three Racing Post Ratings) ~ (owner-trainer):
Equilateral (107-108-108) (Mrs. Fitri Hay/Hills)- Finished second in a GII in Dubai back in February, then ran second to Battaash over soft ground at Royal Ascot in the King's Stand S. (GI) in his best performance of the season. Last two starts were just okay, running 2 3/4L behind Glass Slippers in the Flying Five S. (GI) at the Curragh, then third beaten a length by Lazuli in a GIII at Newbury. Career turf record (21/5-3-2).
Glass Slippers (110-115-105) (Bearstone Stud Ltd/Ryan)- 4yo filly was no match for Battaash in first two starts this season, then won the Flying Five S. (GI) at Curragh and just missed a second GI victory beaten a neck in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp on the Arc card, run over heavy ground. She won the l'Abbaye last year as a 3yo, over soft going. Career turf record (15/6-3-1).
North American entrants-
Got Stormy (6-1) will need every inch of ground to get up in time, still not sure how she got there in Buffalo Trace/Franklin Co. S. (GIII) last time, over C&D. Classy mare, don't dismiss lightly.
Imprimis (8-1) seemed to lose his form after returning from Royal Ascot last fall. Freshened up, limited campaign this season, apparently back to his best now.
Leinster (7-2) was toiling in obscurity, running in dirt sprints for D. Wayne Lukas, until he was turned over to Rusty Arnold at GP early in 2019. He put blinkers on, dropped him in a KEE turf sprint allowance as a maiden, and the rest is history. Colleen and I happened to be in the paddock at Saratoga on 3 August last year (I wanted to see my favorite horse Pure Sensation up close) when they led Leinster in for the Troy Stakes (GIII). We couldn't believe what an impressive physical specimen he was, we thought right then "here's the winner", and he was (in course-record time). Limited campaign this season, clearly with this goal in mind for this HFTC (4/3-1-0). Big chance with smooth stalking trip.
Oleksandra (8-1) was so far back last time in the Jaipur I couldn't see her getting up. As long as Joel Rosario is the jockey, I give her a chance to take the whole thing. She can really quicken. Perhaps Hooper can enlighten us about her prospects.
Winning chance: Got Stormy, Imprimis, Leinster, Oleksandra.
Will use underneath: Big Runnuer, Extravagant Kid, Front Run the Fed, Glass Slippers, Into Mystic.
Interesting longshot: Wet Your Whistle made all the running in the Belmont Turf Sprint Inv. (GIII) last out, as Jose Ortiz, riding him for the first time, took advantage of a loose horse and went to the lead while others were forced out a bit. Weak field, but he was unchallenged throughout, looked good doing it. Won a GI in Canada last year, beating Extravagant Kid. Price will be right.
