European entrants- (last three Racing Post Ratings) ~ (owner-trainer):
Battleground (111-101-81) (Tabor, et. al./A. O'Brien)- easy wins in the Chesham S. at Royal Ascot (soft, 7F) and Vintage S. at Goodwood (GII, 7F) before an illness sent him to the sidelines. Career turf record (3/2-0-0).
Cadillac (111-115-107) (Alpha Racing/Mrs. J. Harrington)- won Juvenile S. (GII) at Leopardstown by open lengths going a mile, then fifth of 14 runners in GI Dewhurst at Newmarket. Flattered by close second to Mac Swiney in Futurity S. (GII), which won today's Futurity Trophy S. (GI) at Doncaster. Career turf record (4/2-1-0).
(Race begins at 3:00 mark.)
Devilwala (114-98-107) (Amo Racing Ltd, et. al./Beckett)- Ran fourth at 100-1 in the Dewhurst S. (GI, 7F) at Newmarket, finishing just ahead of Cadillac. Career turf record (4/1-1-0).
Go Athletico (110-106-104) (Tanguy Moreux Racing, et. al./Decouz)- if the ground gets very deep look out for this guy, a GIII-winner over well-fancied Sealiway, and a fast closing second, albeit going 6F, to Plainchant over heavy ground at Chantilly earlier this month. Career turf record (5/2-3-0).
New Mandate (111-109-89) (Marc Chan/Beckett)- has won three in a row highlighted by Royal Lodge S. (GII) victory under Frankie Dettori in last. Has never run over ground less than good. Career turf record (5/3-0-2).
Sealiway (116-104-104) (Le Haras De La Gousserie, et. al./Rossi)- Second behind Go Athletico in GIII at Longchamp in September, then absolutely crushed the field in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (GI, 7F) over heavy ground on Arc day that many horses did not handle. Career turf record (6/4-1-1).
The Lir Jet (104-104-106) (Qatar Racing Ltd/Bell)- Claim to fame was neck defeat of Wesley Ward-trained Golden Pal in the Norfolk S. (GII) at Royal Ascot (note: Juv Turf Sprint entrant Lipizzaner was fourth), followed by two seconds and a fifth in Group-company. Hasn't run beyond 6F, handled good-to-soft going. Career turf record (5/2-2-0).
North American entrants-
I'd like to see After Five (16-1) run here instead of the sprint, his stretch run after dropping back to last in the Futurity S. (GIII) was very impressive, watch the replay. Stablemate Outadore (same owner) belongs in the sprint. Ward's got it backwards, I feel.
Win chances: Battleground, Cadillac, Go Athletico, New Mandate, Sealiway, After Five.
Will use underneath: Devilwala, Gretzky the Great, Public Sector.
Interesting longshot: It Can Be Done was strong early, rated well, had plenty left in minor MTH stakes.
